Well, the regurg streak continues. Had three more from Sylvie’s clutch do so today. Getting very frustrated with it all since I leave town for several days in the morning.
Getting away from them could be good for all of you!
Wow Jess this is horrible! I have always dreaded regurgitation. Do you think after you get back, getting these babies each s dose of metronidazole would be feasible?
Unlikely. I’m guessing this is just one of those fun flukes caused by a variety of factors, mainly temp and meal size. Everyone will get probiotics for their next feeding, and I’ve made sure they’re all well hydrated. I’m also going to restock on day old pinks so they can have smaller meals.
Ok I am just grabbing at straws I suppose, I agree with @deanaii that maybe it’s a good thing for you to get away for a bit and then start your plan. I believe these little tots are a little sturdier than we imagine they are!
Dang, that’s a real bummer! Sounds like you have a good handle on the cause. They’ll recuperate while you rejuvenate. When they’re ready you’ll be ready, too. This is only a temporary bump.
Oh Jess…I’m so sorry. That really stinks. Here’s to hoping your travel will be a nice reset for everyone.
Well, the trip was both amazing and stressful beyond all reason. I am sunburnt to a crisp (thanks Texas coast sunshine UV 11!
) but finally back home. Turns out 5/11 of Pineapple’s clutch decided to shed while I was away, and the rest are in blue. Everyone is alive and well, I checked first thing after getting in and greeting my fur children. I’ll be feeding some of the little ones tomorrow, and those that regurged will be fed this weekend.
So glad all the babies are alive and shedding! Time off and time out for everyone was no doubt a good thing except for the slight burnt skin! You will be shedding/peeling soon as well Jess! ![]()
Haha! Good point @caron!
I am indeed shedding like my snakes now, doesn’t feel great but hopefully I’ll heal up soon. Lessons learned about gulf coast UV indices and my pale self. In noodle news, Pineapple’s clutch continue to be this year’s rockstars. Almost all have now shed, and even those in blue took their meals. I also managed to feed Sienna’s clutch yesterday. Moved them all back down to small pinkies for now and everyone is digesting well. Two of the five are in blue, can’t wait to see how they progress.
Today is going to be catching up and feeding/cleaning everyone else. Since I have no day old pinks, I’ll likely be offering pieces to Sylvie’s clutch (unless my local shop has day olds).
Glad you’re feeling a bit better. The Gulf Coast UV is definitely a fierce force. But hey, soon you’ll have a bright, new skin, right?
Positive update time! 4/10 of Sylvie’s little demons took meals, three of those were ones that regurged after their last feeding. In addition, I force-fed the non-feeder snow a large chunk of mouse tail in hopes of kickstarting digestion and perhaps a feeding response next time.
Two of Sienna’s girls have shed, and i just need to post updated photos because they are beauties.

Poppy:
One final update for today: I sized up feeders for Pineapple’s clutch and am also attempting again with Sienna’s. Hoping the room will go no lower than 75ºF tonight to give everyone the best shot at proper digestion without regurgitation. They all got them down no problem! Poppy remains the largest of the 2025s at 13.6g grams currently. The largest of Pineapple’s hatchlings is 12.9g.
Hooray for positive updates! They look really good. Auburn’s saddles have such pretty colors. ![]()
Honestly though! I always forget how much I love normals, then I hatch some out and they win me over yet again.
Also, almost 24 hours out from the feeding size up and no regurges! Last time by this point four had regurged. As of right now, everyone looks to be digesting appropriately. Seems it really was mainly a temperature issue last time.
Woo hoo for bellies staying full! Well, gradually diminishing as expected. ![]()
I decided to split up Sylvie’s clutch even further. I normally keep everyone in small groups of 3-4, but I had them at two groups of five. In order to make it easier to keep trying to feed the stubborn kids, I’ve got the four that took a meal most recently in their own bin, and the remaining six split into two groups of three. That means my only bin of five is now Sienna’s clutch (since there are only five and they all eat without issue).
Curious—at what point do you separate them?
