Thoughts on the Reco gene

I was watching Dav Kaufman youtube vid on the new retpile expo in Europe. A gentlemen there said he has found a new gene that is both co-dom and recessive and somewhat sexed link. The way he explained it is if you breed the “reco” gene all the males you get are visibal rico and all the females are “het reco” I would love to hear what everyones thoughts are on this, especially @t_h_wyman

I hope i am linking this properly

There have been a couple threads on here, hopefully these help.

Very interesting video! I agree it looks similar to axanthic but not exactly, and the sex link is weird- creating either a co dom visual reco or a recessive het for reco. Truly amazing, we still don’t understand everything in these crazy ball python genetic mutations! Nice share @wreckroomsnakes I really enjoyed it!

The proper term for this type of mutation is ‘X-linked recessive’

The gene is located on the X chromosome and has a recessive inheritance pattern because you need an absence of the WT allele to see the visual expression. In females this only happens when both of her X chromosomes carry the mutation. In males there is no second allele because they only have one X chromosome, so therefore they display the phenotype.

This type of mutation is well understood, we have seen many examples of it. Close to home, it is the same inheritance pattern we see in red/green colour-blindness :+1:t4:
