You know I don’t think I have ever found snake poop so interesting as I have lately! Thank you @sydneygeorge and @noodlehaus! My life is now complete!
So his last poo did look a little better. (It was at least brown) but I cannot get him to eat the last 2 weeks. And now he has scales that are lifting and feel rough and turning a darker color. I have no idea what to do. I did end up taking him out of my reptile room after his scales started looking weird. He’s still active, I’ve been keeping him clean with diluted betadine and sterile saline. I’m hoping he sheds soon so I can see what he looks like after. But since he won’t eat I don’t think he will be shedding soon. He’s just making me feel so defeated I don’t know what to do.
(His weight has been maintaining at least, no massive weight drops yet)
Almost sounds like a case of scale rot, though photos would help give a better idea. That said, it could also be that he injured/lifted a few scales somehow, which is not uncommon.
That’s kinda what it looked like. He’s in a hospital tank that I’m keeping super clean so it’s not from bacteria so he must have injured scales somehow. Is it common for milksnakes to go off food once they get older? (He’s probably 1.5-2 yrs old) he’s always been super food motivated so it’s just odd he randomly stopped eating
I tried to get pictures but it’s really hard to see on camera with his coloring.
Snakes are pretty good at injuring scales, especially climbers. I have a corn who likes to jam himself up around the edge of his tank and play spider noodle from the mesh lid. He’s constantly got lifed & bruised scales because of it, hasn’t deterred him from it, though.
As for the not eating, I don’t have any real milksnake specific experience, but every so often a snake will refuse feeds, sometimes for no reason at all. That said, if you’re feeding weekly, you might consider upping the time between feeds by a couple of days to see if that changes anything.
I have a milk snake but he’s only about a year old. I am still feeding him fuzzies, one fuzzy every 10 days. So far with this method of small size prey and slow and steady feeding has worked well for me. He has only refused his meals when he is in shed. I don’t know what you are feeding your noodle or how often you feed but you may need to make some adjustments……
