Dang, that’s a great idea! I never thought about using those flat-sided fish prisons that way. They’re usually easy to find at thrift stores and yard sales. Yay for reusing something else!

exactly what i planned on doing! I’ll be either buying a viv or making one out of wood, most likely plan on making it because i thoroughly enjoy doing things like that, and plan on putting a sheet of plastic down, then clay beads, and a sheet of landcape/gardening fabric for a barrier. Potho’s grow like crazy so they’re your best friend when it comes to bioactives, lol. And not only are they good for the humidity, but they also act as a nice cover and foliage for your little ball! Haworthia is just a cute little succulent thats safe for your snake. No real purpose there lol. and as for prayer plants, they also do good for cover, and they’re nice and full plants so they cram everything.

Ooo, awesome!! I’ve got PLENTY of sphagnum moss so that works well for me, lol. And lots of tupperware to steal from my mom, haha. What side do you have yours on? He doesn’t seem to want to even drink water from his soaking bowl, and i’ve been swapping the water every day, i think he has a preference for being put in his container and soaking… at the moment that bowl is just a big thing for him to bulldoze over and soak his aspen. He loves both of his hides, I’ll take him out in the grass just to get some exercise, and i’ll put his hides out too, and he goes straight for one of them. Also discovered he likes plastic laundry baskets…good enrichment, i guess! I just sanded any sharp parts of the holes down, and he sticks his head through all of them, wiggles around in side of it, and goes in and out through the holes for handles (the other holes are too tiny for his fat 'ol midsection 
) so i’m definitely gonna give the hide a try!

I might have to try this. I’m dealing with like 30% ambient humidity where I live right now (on a good day). Not only am I having to mist my blood python like crazy, but my own skin and hair are hating life right now. I’ve considered getting a room humidifier, but a tank full of pothos sounds prettier. And probably quieter as well.

Well I asked where the fish bowls were in the store to buy one because I couldn’t find any and I was told they didn’t have any for sale and they were trying to use the ones they had because the bowls were not big sellers!

I know I’m late on this, but here’s some fun/interesting info on this bedding: It’s all made by The American Excelsior Company! The small animal bedding sold in bulk (Aspen Bed, much more expensive) is actually the exact same product as the horse bedding, the only real difference is particle size & absorption capabilities. Aspen Bed is a coarser product, while the Premium Horse Bedding is finer and more absorbent.

I got the idea from a friend of a friend who has a pretty big room and in the middle he has an aquarium stand with a 20 gallon long that’s just choked with pothos. The vines go all the way to floor and you can hardly see the stand. His room stays 40% all the time.

Seems accurate, although I must say that it also seems backwards to me. The big “horse bedding” version is in brown paper so it’s not visible in the store. I wondered if it would be too big or too dusty, but figured it was worth the price of a bag to find out. When I first opened it, I was very surprised at how fine the particles were. It’s much more finely shredded than any bedding I’ve ever purchased for horses. In fact, it wouldn’t be my first choice for a stall. Horses are heavy, and they have a lot of pounds per square inch on their hooves. This would pack down too firmly, providing neither cushion nor air space. Because of how it would pack, it would also take more bags to bed a stall. It seems backwards, but it’s great for the snakes! Fwiw, this is what it looks like.

I agree, I wouldn’t use that for horses.
How weird that the bedding they sell “for horses only” is not ideal for horses at all, but is ideal for snakes. That’s some top-notch marketing!
Now I’m sad that I don’t have a Tractor Supply anywhere near me. 
Maybe I’ll check out our locally-owned feed store and see if they have anything similar, or could order that brand for me. At that price, I’d happily use that stuff for both my snake and my chinchilla. The only reason I use the shaved stuff for the chin’s litterbox is just because it’s cheaper and she goes through it faster. But I don’t think she cares what she pees on, so long as it’s absorbent (and I only care that it’s safe for her).

That looks more like the shaved stuff I use for my chinchilla. Mostly it’s soft, but sometimes I feel some kinda sharp edges. The shaved stuff I buy also seems to be dustier than the shredded ZooMed stuff I buy for my sand boa. But I usually just buy whatever big bag is cheapest on Amazon. 
Honestly, I’m sure it would be fine for a snake, but the more finely shredded stuff holds tunnels better, which is the main reason I like it for the sand boa.

He gets it from tractor supply in bulk. Its very thin and pretty soft to the touch, minimal dust compared to the shreds of aspen i used to buy from a local pet store.

I was gonna say, that looks like the stuff I had been buying from Tractor Supply before I discovered the ideal-for-snakes"horse" bedding. It works fine for the bigger ones. I had been buying the more finely shredded stuff in small bags for my babies.
