All these adventures of letting snakes roam free! I’ve never dared for any length of time with my corn snakes, since they’re way too small and could end up anywhere. I’ve only let them climb our fake plants and such…but having a big snake like this does bring a whole new level to the fun (and challenge, apparently) of owning one! It’s fun to imagine from the sidelines…and I’m glad I’ve never had to move a fridge or block a toilet.
On a side note, though, it reminds me of the time we DID have one corn escape (when we were new keepers) and I imagine he did go down the toilet (of course I can’t be sure). He followed the city pipes to our neighbor’s house two doors down and came up their bathtub. Scared the wife to DEATH. When they posted it on the neighborhood FB group to see if anyone lost a pet, the idea of a snake coming up a drain unexpectedly scared all the women in the neighborhood to death. When we claimed the lost snake as ours, we had to reassure them there wasn’t a snake infestation in the city pipes.
My neighbor (the husband could joke about it, the wife couldn’t) said he posted this:
I didn’t think it was possible, either! We cleaned him up, quarantined him (of course), got some topical antibacterial for him, fed him, and he—amazingly—did just fine. He looked a little yellow, but shed pretty quickly and then looked totally fine. Snakes are amazing creatures.
She is an absolute goddess!

I heard again that they somewhat “talk”, is that true? Like with huffs, puffs, and little hisses. Not only with body language, but they seem to understand somewhat the concept of sound manipulation to achieve a wider range of effects compared to just defensive hisses.
Is it correct?
She’s beautiful!! I almost got an Argentine at an expo a couple years ago. Ended up getting an IMG BI instead. Boas are awesome, mine is so gentle and curious (once she knows she’s not getting fed, she does have as pretty insane prey drive). I love the head shape on Argentines.
That poop is impressive! My boa is still a juvenile, so she’s not huge yet (though getting bigger), but my adult blood python leaves MASSIVE poops. Like, so massive I had to stop flushing them down the toilet because they kept clogging the toilet. Fortunately she’s never left me one while she’s out of her cage (yet).
@mkmtsd Here is the 10 ft female that my friend now has! She’s way too large for me! And she’s also about to have her first litter for him any day! I didn’t think I had this photo anymore but I found it!

I wonder if the writers of Deep Rising experience this to inspire that toilet scene that traumatized me as a kid (hopefully some millennials out there know what I’m talking about). I was terrified of using the toilet for months after However as an adult I would be THRILLED to find a snake in my bathroom drain
Completely correct! She is very expressive and has a variety of sounds she uses. For example when she’s frustrated - when we first got her she’d be in play tent jail while we cleaned her enclosure because we didn’t trust her yet and she’d give big huffy sighs in between unsuccessful attempts to rip the tent open. She does little grumpy hisses sometimes when my significant other tries to pet her (I’d like to think she loves me more). Haha i was the opposite! I almost got an IMG but then got Dratini instead. They were being sold by the same person at a reptile expo and were in containers right next to eachother and i actually held the IMG lol. Then i ended up getting the snake right next to the IMG a couple months later because i couldn’t get her out of my mind, and that snake happened to be Dratini.
This must be a common dilemma because similar thing happened to me lol. Put a deposit down for a baby IMG boa and had to wait over a month for it. Then happened to run into someone local selling an Argentine (didn’t even know they existed) and realized THAT was what I was looking for this whole time. So yea… now I have both snakes. Love them both but the IMG is very different personality. Her priorities are chilling, eating, and sitting around looking cute hahah. This is her:
She’s a BEAUTY! Is she a locality boa or a BCI morph? I’m kinda green when it comes to identifying. How long did it take her to get to that size and did you do anything special feeding wise?
I mean, it makes sense why someone who likes Argentines would also like IMGs, and vice versa. There’s just something about a black, iridescent boa.
I think I like the head shape on Argentines better, but I just love the head spear on IMG boas.
If I had the space for a second boa, I’d probably get an Argentine. Unless I got a sunglow BI. Guess I just need to find space for two more boas.
Im definitely going to get another Argentine boa, selling my pair was one of my biggest regrets. They are just impressive as adults and my female was ao vocal, a mixture of a rattle and a hiss. If a boa could smoke a carton a day then you get the idea of she sounded when opening her enclosure
This is so true and I was told this by her breeder that she would be a bit girthy but not necessarily terribly long…… can’t wait to see what her babies look like!
