but are there any reptiles that when you check on them you get a flashback to the good old days when you were starting out, or a smell of something?

For me its when the hobbie learns something new or challenges old or established ideas.
We only had wild caught when I started, and so everything to do with husbandry and breeding was just ideas. I am glad to have been a part of that learning process. And the learning is still happening to this day,
