Ball python eating (just before laying?)

I have a female ball python who is huge with eggs. Her sister just layed last week and looked very similar in size (roundness wise).

Her sister went off food a good two months before laying and the current female went off food shortly after. I offered food to her sister up until she layed. Ive also been offering her food which shes been refusing.

Anyways, today i offered food and she took it. (She definitely ovulated already and she kinda looks ready to blow) her most recent shed was june 12th (i know if its the prelay shed to expect eggs 30ish days later).

I was told that if they eat then they wont lay…has anyone had something similar happen?

It really just depends on the girl. Most won’t eat after ovy, but there are a few who will still take a few.

One of my girls ate right up until the last 2 weeks before laying during her first season.
Right now I have a girl who I thought I missed an ovy on. Turns out she was still building and I did catch her ovy. She took her last meal just after her prelay shed. She’s huge, but sounds like she’s doing the same your girl is. My other girl who’s due a couple days after this girl hasn’t eaten since her ovy.

So with the 12 being the shed date you still have a bit of time before eggs should happen. I wouldn’t worry about it.
Now if she starts seeming overly lethargic and is more than 45 days after her prelay I would definitely be more concerned about things, but she probably would not want to eat at that point.

I have a girl that ate weekly up until dropping eggs- to the point that the person I was buying her from was surprised when they opened her tub :joy:
So we had to wait a bit longer to ship her to me, so it definitely happens!
