Very easy answer…boa. I will always recommend them. I honestly don’t know if there’s a better snake out there. Wonderful personalities, good food drive, and they come in a great amount of morphs with that boa size.
Is there a particular locality you like over others, lumpy? Im still so so drawn to hog island. Sunsets, altho not pure hog island, are freaking gorgeous, and a seller has some nice ones up on the market side.
@caron, that months long stretch of not feeding is so stinking annoying. Kane went thru it recently. He actually started eating again when plantain, my friends bp i took, started eating again. I dont know that ive ever seen a rosy boa atnmy local expo, but also not being one to LOOK for them, i could be mistaken.
Honestly, because of Emily and Ed at snake discover, ive wanted a bull for a while, and just never bit the bullet. Maybe you’re right and thats exactly what im looking for.
Mines in bio, never had an issue with husbandry either when I had in tubs, only used orchid bark then.
But prefer bio!
Let’s be honest, it you don’t mind what type of snake you go for really, and want a snake that’s active a lot, never misses a meal either.
I’m going to say get a king. When we had ours and all the royals the king was the dumpster ![]()
Never missed a meal, always out and about, active, friendly! Just a sweetie!
If you want a snake that never misses a meal but isn’t always out and about.
Tricolour hognose. Adore these 2 so much! Never miss a meal no matter what I do to the enclosure or with handling etc. Amazing to own and just so pretty too!!
I’ll add in though, Royals are lovely, I still have hideyoshi here, my first, and he’s been a dream to own! Always eats, always cute, and He’s got his big 4x2x2 now and loving the space and being able to climb! Bio too, going to add some pothos soon up top! ![]()
All are really good suggestions. I have all but the tricolor.
i think the next snake i get wipl probably be a bull.
Bull are amazing!
Will need pics if you defo get one ![]()

Whatever you get you owe us pictures! ![]()
Oh, you know i’ll have pics!!! I need to start researching more heavily… Still considering the Hog Island boas, and now Bull snakes are on the list so I want to fully research them as well (i have a feeling that research won’t be as extensive since i already have colubrids and their care tends to be along the same lines for the most part). A friend of mine also supports bloods, as she’s has two. Not so sure about those.
There are honestly SO many options. it’s… tough. And while i’m researching i’ll get my reptile room better organized and animals converted to dubia enclosures.
