Matt, I really love the look of this boa. The base color with the contrast of that horizontal black line is perfect. Plus, a laddertail.

The housing market in California is crazy. How can the average person own a home.
You guys need to move to the Midwest.
My home is worth around 330,000 in Northwest Indiana. My house is over 2,200 square feet and 2 acres of land. Property taxes are just over 3,000 a year.
I do drive a lot for work every week. Around 500 to 800 miles, depending on where I am working that day. But I am retiring this summer / fall.
I did live in the midwest for a long time, and I’m considering moving more permanently to Iowa, and like finding some type of online job, so hopefully I can find something a little cheaper:)
But the Midwest doesn’t have this:
And us California girls don’t do snow. (Seriously, the one and only time I’ve had frost on my windshield, it took me like 10 minutes just to figure out what was going on. )
But yeah, our housing market is criminal. No arguments there. On the upside, I’m getting new carpets, new windows, and a new range, and I don’t have to pay for any of it! Seeing how much all that is costing has served as a reminder that renting isn’t all bad. I’m also extremely fortunate that my landlord is also my mother, so she’s more understanding than most landlords about the whole pet situation.
It’s frustrating to hear that so many landlords don’t allow reptiles. It surprises me a bit, because 15+ years ago when I was first renting, I didn’t really have any issues finding places that allowed my bearded dragon. Even landlords that didn’t allow cats and dogs didn’t have a problem with the beardie. It’s a shame that it’s become such a big issue for people these days.
@tommccarthy Thanks Tom! I absolutely love that girl, Kubsch pastel seems to really make some nice orange colored animals. I got word from Sam that he’s got a few squaretail pairings that look promising this year. If a male albino pops up this year, I’ll be grabbing one for sure. He sent me some pictures of the one’s hes been growing out and the sure do look good.
That living situation sounds ideal. My house is 1/2 the size and I bought it at twice that price. now it’s worth even more and I just can’t comprehend it. I want to say our lot is 7000 sq feet lol. Oh what I’d do with 2 acres! Your dogs must be in heaven out there. My wife couldn’t do the snow but I worked locally in mountains for the winter and absolutely loved it. Maybe I can talk her into it one day, if she could retire and not work I may have a shot haha.
100% that is the reason we are still here. I surf most days and might go kinda crazy without that interaction/workout with nature! Beautiful stretch of beach you got there
Honestly guys, I recommend trying to find old couples that built in-law apartments for their houses. They definitely have them in Florida and elsewhere. And also guest houses…that’s what I’m moving into when I get married.
The rent is usually pretty low $1000-1500 per month total), especially if you offer to help them with yardwork and things of that nature, they’re very willing to do it.
Also, I mean, I have the benefit of being a nurse and my wife is a home health aid… so that helps convince them that we will be good tenants and also good to have around.
That is absolutely stunning and I’d love to visit it one day…but it’s not the Pacific Ocean. When I think about all the amazing things I’ve seen and experienced in and near this little patch of coastal water, and of all the things I still hope to see and experience here, the thought of ever leaving it behind makes me want to cry.
There may well come a time in the future when I feel motivated to leave for some reason…but it would have to be a pretty darn good reason.
I would miss the cold and snow too much if I lived somewhere warm like Florida or California. I grew up in Vermont, and I even though I’ve enjoyed living in different places while I get my degrees (I lived in South Africa for a bit, and right now I live in Wales), I agree with the sentiment of loving the nature I grew up in. But really, it all depends on if/where I can find a job! Let me tell you, when that time comes I will be thrilled to be able to share my own snake pictures.
I’ve lived in the midwest my whole live (Ohio growing up, Indiana now) and I know the prices are way better than in other states, but goodness even 300k seems crazy to my young, broke self.
I also live near Purdue right now for work, so cost of living is higher here than where I would hopefully settle in the future. I’m looking for rural land and so can hopefully do what you did and get a decent chunk of land somewhere
These can definitely be a great option! We have quite a few of them here too (probably because nobody can afford their mortgage payments here without taking on a renter lol), though the rent is usually more than $1000-1500 here. But since the people who own those properties are typically not professional landlords, they’re often a bit more flexible on things like pets. One of my coworkers rents a place like that, and the owners initially didn’t want any pets in the place, but after he’d been there a couple years and built a relationship with them and proven himself to be respectful and responsible, they let him get a dog. And now they totally love his dog, which is great.
Cleaning day here, so I took a few of the boas out for pictures.
First is KoKo, my female BCCXBCI she is jungle motley het albino. It will probably still be 2 or 3 years before I breed her.
My female sunglow motley jungle she is gravid, so I only spot cleaned her cage. Gave her fresh water and new cypress much.
Venus she is a BCCXBCI hypo het albino.
It will probably still be 2 or 3 years before I breed her. I just love all the colors she has in her patterns. Just think all that black will be red / purple in the sunglows she produces.
Last is Aang, my male sunglow motley jungle. He is just an easy-going boa. Thank goodness as he would be a handful if he was aggressive. He is around 7 feet and 30 lbs.
Venus’ colors are so rich Tom. I really love those crosses.
I had Pinky out while my kids swam. I love how this girl is coloring up with age. She the chillest snake we own having been the first and handled the most by my kids.
Oh and Cali did end up going into blue a few days ago, so I do believe she is gravid. Shes been keeping herself around 88f for the most part. It’s interesting how she maintains heat vs Blush. Blush cools off to mid 80s at night then goes on top of her hide and hold low to mid 90s for body temp during the day. It seems like it would average out to be about the same temp over time. Hopefully both litters go smoothly and they are just two different routes to get to the same result
Took Rosalie out today, love this big girl. Shes in a dark phase but still beautiful. Took a pic of a nice ladder tail Brian has too. That tail is so long.
Rosalie is looking outstanding Dennis. I love when they’re in a dark phase and all the details in the head markings show through. Her tail sure is poppin!
That laddertail is rad on the other female. Is she gravid?
Thanks buddy. Im hoping Rosalie will be ready next year. The ladder tail is not but i believe that will go next year. Theres a few gravid though and looks to be some amazing litters soon.
Just love that red tail Rosalie has Dennis.
