You’re so right! Breeding season is certainly exciting, often delightful, usually stressful, sometimes sad, but consistently makes me thankful to be able to witness new life.
Not that this will be happening any time soon. Annelie still hasn’t shed. Surely soon, though. I opened the nest box to see if she had shed inside it. No shed, but I had to smile. This is the closest that this very sweet creature has ever come to looking teed off. I did apologize for pestering her.

The final countdown has begun. Annelie had her pre-lay shed! She’s a homebody kind of girl and just hanging out in her nest box. Can’t wait - although I guess I have to!

Annelie’s pictures look a bit more orange-y than she actually is. She’s a bright, saturated, rich red.

Haha, me too! I didn’t grow up with it and told Dan than I had always wanted to marry someone with a simple, boring last name since I’d always had to spell both first and last. I still do. But it sure was fun telling my students that one of meanings of Ulrich is “ruler of all.” Looks like some ancestor of Dan’s had some kinda high opinion of himself.

Thanks, @caron! He looks mighty fine! I just love seeing updates! Ulrich looks pretty much just like his mom at two years old. You can expect him to keep getting more saturated color as he matures. Gorgeous!

Welp, looks like I’ll be spending the weekend resting. Not positive if it’s a hamstring though that seems most likely. I suppose I’ll see about going to a doctor Monday. I’ve got wraps, ice, crutches and a walker here. That’s all that would be done at this point. If I wait till Monday I can see my doctor for a referral. Fortunately Annelie is still just chilling in her nest box. Narcissa is due for a feeding. She’s looking good. The 2025s are due to get fed today but I think their 7 day schedule is gonna have to flex today.
