I am currently keeping Mochi (ball python) in a terrestrial enclosure. I am going to move Mochi to a larger terrestrial enclosure soon, and I would like to continue to use Mochi’s current enclosure when Mochi moves out. I have been wanting a crestie for a while, and I would like to use Mochi’s current tank for a crestie but i know cresties are arboreal. Can a crested gecko be happily kept in a terrestrial enclosure?
No. Crested geckos need an arboreal enclosure/tank with branches to climb up on and lots of foliage to hide in and feel secure, They need height.
What size is the enclosure? Realistically Cresties should be kept in no smaller than a 20 gallon tall enclosure, they really need that height enrichment to allow them to climb.
Thank you! I’ll get an arboreal enclosure for a furture crestie.
It’s not super tall. Probably about 1 and 1/2 feet tall and about 3 ft long. I got it a while ago and dont remember the exact size.
Here is a place you can check out to see if you can convert your tank, I did that once with a 20 gallon long tank…… it worked great….
Thank you! I’ll check it out. ![]()

I’ll get a picture pretty soon, atm I’m visiting my uncle + other close family! I’ll have them tomorrow ![]()
No worries! If you get the tank converted and get your crestie it would be great to see that! ![]()
hey @caron i just wanted to let you know i might not have those pictures until Sunday! my stepdad says we might be staying with close family one more day. sorry for the inconvenience!![]()
No worries! You are not in any way under any obligation!!! Just wait until you get your gecko! ![]()
I was just kidding anyway but we love it when people post them of their animals and setups!
. Good luck to you!
If it is 18" tall, that would be tall enough to use, just would need to be sure to incorporate plenty of vertical climbing branches, plants etc. The standard arboreal terrariums you see suggested for them are usually 18" to 24" tall. (When I was keeping them, I had both 24" and 18" tall terrariums, of course taller/bigger is usually better).
Okay, thank you! I’ll double check the height once i get home ^^
