Charcoal or Anery? Need help identifying

Hi guys. So I need a bit of help determining if these 2022 babies are charcoal or Anery. Their mom is an Ultramel Tessera proven (het) Anery. She was paired to a Diffused male last year to prove out that gene, but I got these babies resulting. This year she was paired to a Coral Snow and I got Snow tessera’s from it, so I know she’s het Anery. But do these babies mean she’s her for charcoal as well or is something else at play? Thank you In advance for the help guys :).

They could be granite (anery diffused) which would mean that the mother was her diffused. Either way beautiful babies!

They almost look Ghost to me. Perhaps @solarserpents & @caryl could weigh in on their thoughts.

So first of all… that first baby is STUNNING! They do have a charcoal look to them, especially the first one, in my opinion. Can you post the bellies too?

Thank you  and I would say they’re definitely masque as well.

They definitely look like it and it would make sense too since you said the male was diffused and most diffused corns usually are also masque

They’re masque for sure. But not diffused.

Beautiful babies, both of them. Yes to being Masque for certain, not Diffused. As for the Anery/Charcoal question, that’s often a tough call. I’ve got a couple of questions for you. What lighting were those pics taken in? Do you happen to have baby pics of these two? Sometimes it’s possible to ID Charcoal babies by their head color.

They were taken in almost direct sunlight. And I unfortunately don’t have baby pictures of these guys that I can find atm.
Here are some more pictures in darker lighting

Geez. I’m afraid I can’t split that particular, er, scale. They could be either, though they look a bit more Charcoal-ish in these pics. Given that you know mom’s het Anery, odds are these are Anery. It’s less likely but still possible that both she and her mate last year both are also het Charcoal. As the babies grow, if they’re Charcoal they are less likely to show the yellows along their throat lower sides which typically show clearly on Anery. If they develop brown tones in their greys, that’s a tip-off that they’re Anery rather than Charcoal. Other than that, it may take a breeding trials.

Did you get any Aneries from this year’s pairing with the Coral Snow?

Thank you for that information and yes I did. I know for sure since I got Snow tessera’s in that clutch. It is posted in my other post “two new clutches just hatched” if you’d like to see
