Crested gecko

Hello, so I’m getting a crested gecko and I just recently got the enclosure and set up, the room I plan on having them in is currently sitting around 73/74° Fahrenheit, the humidity right now is currently at 69% and goes up to about 74%. I went to do a test run how spraying the enclosure to make sure the humidity levels and temp are within range it spike to 99% and it went down to 74°. My question is do I need to mist the enclosure? I know it provides a water source but I do have a water dish in place, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated !!

Sounds good! You don’t need to spray the enclosure again until it’s fallen some more. I find that some people overspray because they think that’s the only way for them to drink, but they drink from dishes just fine. What is important is that the enclosure gets to dry out physically inbetween sprayings, not so much that it gets down to a specific range, as the relative humidity is gonna differ from area to area and house to house. Personally i keep my enclosures’ humidity by spraying down the substrate super well about once a week, and then letting it evaporate. If i accidentaly over or under spray, i just leave it a bit longer/shorter inbetween the sprays

Thank you so much!! Is it okay for the humidity to go above 80% to the mid 80’s?

Absolutely as long as it doesn’t stay there for days on end, if that’s the case then you probably want to look at the ventilation in your setup. Humidity in itself isn’t dangerous as such, it’s the potential build-up of bacteria, mould, and/or fungi in constantly wet/non-well ventilated setups that is.
