Did that piece of aspen have anything to with with the outcome after shipping? I’m curious since you mentioned it. Or maybe I’m just not understanding correctly.

I’m guessing that it did. It was more than a piece, it was a handful. They’re technically supposed to have some type of absorbent material in their packing. If FedEx sees any kind of a leak from a package, it can get pulled out of the line so absorbent material is an important part of correct packaging. I usually use some aspen from their home enclosure for this since the familiar scent might help them feel safer
while shipping. The aspen I’ve been using happily for years (the Excelsior stuff from Tractor Supply) is shaved very fine. I’ve never had an issue with it but it was not available anywhere for a couple months. The brand I got has much larger pieces. I assume that the bigger pieces were rougher and the poor snake just kept rubbing himself more raw on either the aspen or the bag, or both. I feel terrible that this happened to the poor sweet animal.
For reference, here’s one of the bags. Basic ordinary muslin snake bag. Never been a problem before.
This is the coarse aspen which I stopped using immediately after this happened.
This is the aspen I much prefer and am VERY happy to be able to purchase again.

Pretty simple. Because they were there already. Exacerbated by being shipped.

Whether they are new injuries or, as you say, exacerbated by the shipping, that still indicates the bag is the issue so I fail to understand why you keep arguing???
