hey I have a calico orange dream female and a male sandblast and i really want to try breeding them however I live in Canada Toronto and don’t know if there would be buyers for the babies? does anyone have experience selling ball pythons and should i try it?
There’s two downsides with the pairing you have
-
Sandblast is a little bit of a niche gene and can be very subtle. Sometimes it’s very difficult to even make out in a low expression animal.
-
The pairing itself is a very weak one. There’s a chance you could even end up with normals in this pairing. I don’t know how the market is in Canada personally, but in the US it’s rough for single gene snakes which is likely in this case. Normals can take a long time to move unless you’re offing really low pricing.
As far as how it is in Canada. If anything maybe hit up a couple reptile selling shops around the area and see how they’re doing.
Edit: If there’s a store you trust, sometimes they will buy babies at wholesale pricing as well. And takes the pressure off of you having to sell them
@player75r4e5454 You have gotten some really great advice/feedback. I just want to add to what @graysnake said and that is hopefully you have an exotics vet lined up in case your current bp’s need medical attention. If you do decide to breed them you will definitely need access to a vet in case your female becomes egg bound and/or any of the babies need medical care, help with assist feeding or euthanasia. If you intentionally bring BP babies into the world, you will be ethically responsible for their health care/costs in addition to their housing, feeding etc.
Just something else to consider. Best of luck
thanks so much to all who offered guidance on this topic at this point I have decided to simply enjoy the BPs i own and I’m looking into getting an African fat tail gecko. maybe i will revisit the thought of breeding next year. thanks again to you all and I’m sure this thread will benefit other people as well.
