Does anyone have this happen

I can say with 100% certainty that I would not own them. Even leaf-tails are a bit too big for me. :joy:

Classroom pets are only viable if they don’t really have requirements of heat&humidity. I think rodents fit that and some invertebrates but most people find invertebrates as “creepy”.

In all honesty i wouldn’t bring any animal in as a class pet as you would not have the access required to properly care for them. I wouldn’t trust that the teacher would feed them, and all the extra people makes for a lot of stress.

I remember when i was younger and i raised rats, now my rats were really smart escape artists, it didn’t bother me much because they always returned from their wandering. My brother brought home the school pet which was a shoebox of silkworms. He decided it was ok to put the box next to my rats cage. The next day i noticed my female had a huge belly so i thought she was preggers, but then i noticed my male had a huge belly too. At 1st i was puzzled but for some reason i saw the lid on the shoebox pushed a bit to the side, so i decided to look inside. It looked like a horror movie bloodbath :joy: there was nothing but blood and silk fibers in the box. My brother had to explain that the class pet was eaten by my rats. Needless to say he was never allowed to bring home a class pet ever again.

Agreed. It gets difficult. Especially if you’re teaching lower elementary/early childhood. That would be super stressful for any animal. I teach middle school, so the kids are a little more receptive on what not to do and why.

Since I’m the teacher, I would feed and have access. I don’t think I’d be able to do it anyway as I wouldn’t want to leave one of my babies there alone without me. :joy:

I wanted to be a teacher long ago, before i decided to go into the military. I also wanted to be a police officer. I decided neither the teacher nor the cop would be worth it. Both would be far too stressful for me. Little did i know the military was extremely high stress :joy:.
