I’ve had my gecko Riley for a while now, and I’ve always kinda thought he was an Olive Dalmatian, but I wasn’t sure. I wanted to hear from the experts if he is or isn’t. I think he looks really cool, and he will definitely stick around here:)
I also found him a girlfriend that I'm pretty excited about lol. Both are too small to breed, but it'll be nice to have a pair at least.Looks like an olive to me. The only thing I really have to say is he looks a little on the skinny side and he doesn’t have great head structure. Bad head structure isn’t a huge problem as long as his girlfriend has really good head structure. He is really beautiful even without amazing head structure and will make some great babies!
He fire down green too?
I wouldn’t say true olive then as doesn’t fire down olive.
Just a lovely dark based Dalmatian, Pos bicolour? Any pics of back fired?
Love his name
You’ve mentioned that at least once before lol. I like his name too.
It might sound weird, but I’ve noticed that when I give an animal a name before I actually get the animal, it usually works out. But, if I see an animal that I want to buy, but I can’t figure out a name for it, it doesn’t work out… It’s very odd. It’s happened for all of my geckos (Penny, Riley, Mango, and hopefully tomorrow night, Coco) and several other cresties I’ve looked at. I’ve kind of started going by it now.
I agree he doesn’t look olive, but does look like a bicolour. And head structure is small, but if female has a huge breed structure then hopefully won’t make a difference. Do you have a pic of his future lady friend?
The name thing doesn’t sound weird. I’m there other way around, I can’t name the gecko before getting it, despite knowing what morph I’m looking for
We are going to need a couple of good dorsal pictures in daylight to make a certain guess.
I’d take @ghoulishcresties and @foxreptile word over mine any day of the week, but I’m not convinced he’s not an Olive
I don’t have pictures in good natural light, and it’s really cold rn, so I don’t think I’ll be able to get any today. Thursday’s supposed to be nice though
I do have a pic of the female! Here it is:
I’m not sure how much that helps, structure wise, but I can get more tonight when I pick her up
She appears to be a bicolour brindle Dalmatian. Similar to my Moth
I love the name I have a Coco also. Head structure looks small to normal. I wouldn’t pair the two together though as head structure is something I look for in geckos. As do a lot of breeders so you’d be limiting who you sell too.
Yeah, I was thinking if I did breed them it would be just to test the waters, to see if I can actually make it work, before diving in, and getting like Lilly Whites (Which is something I eventually want to work with) I know that sometimes I can tired of something quickly, and testing my own capability with something less expensive sounded like a good idea.
I get what your saying. Just understand that the CG market is flooded & due to the small head structure, you’ll have a harder time selling as breeders are likely not to be interested. This could mean the you may not sell the majority of the offspring. Resulting in you keeping them long term.
Just a reminder, females can continue to lay eggs for up to 3 years.
I don’t want this to seem harsh, just understand that whenever breeding, you need to be prepared to keep all the offspring, should they not sell & to also understand the market.
Lilly Whites in UK are super cheap ATM but I expect they will rise again. I understand this is not the case everywhere.
I am aware of all of that, and I understand what you’re saying. It doesn’t sound harsh, it just sounds like you care:)
I’ve seen UK prices for lillies, I wish it was like that over here.
