Eggs coming soon and would like some advice

Hey guys I should have some eggs coming in around 7-11 days and would like advice on incubating them. My first question is if vermiculite or perilite is better and I would also like to know if I should put holes in the egg box or not. Thank you in advance to anybody who helps out :slightly_smiling_face:.

I just did my first clutch today. I’m using perlite and I put a few holes in my egg boxes. If they seem to be losing too much humidity, I can always cover them with tape.

I use vermiculite, but either option is fine. I also cover my eggs with some damp sphagnum moss. No holes in the container. That will dry them out faster and it will allow flies or other bugs to get in there. I simply open my egg container about once a week to allow some fresh air and then reseal it.

Wouldnt this let out too much humidity though?

No, not really. Sometimes I’ll re-moisten the moss on top if it’s starting to feel a bit dry.

I actually use only sphagnum moss. I do have small ventilation holes, but where I live there is rarely a problem with the air/ environment lacking humidity. It’s usually the other way around.
