Looking good, looking great!!

Quick but great update today - not including our extreme runt twin, all but one of the hatchlings have now taken a meal on their own!

All 4 of the babies from the first clutch took a meal for me, the two holdouts Flare and Glimmer deciding to cave when offered mouse hoppers instead of rat pinkies/fuzzies, and then all but the first hatched pewter took from Ororo’s clutch! Everyone seems to be finding their appetite, so here’s hoping next Friday our last hunger strike will cave and then we’ll have a nice complete roster of the clean plate club!

Our runtiest of the lot is still being assist fed and I got him to take a full sized mouse pinky on Monday. I think I’m going to make sure he takes at least one more meal before I back off and start pushing him to take a meal without assistance. He still hasn’t had his first shed nor started going into blue, and I’ve noticed with observation that his movement towards that front half isn’t the best and think he may have trouble trying to shed for the first time. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, of course, and since his twin is eating now I have separated them into their own setups. He definitely is able to get around okay on his own though, so I’m not going to give up on him yet. Officially have decided to name the little guy Curly, with his tendency to curl around to the left due to his kink. It doesn’t seem to be necessary as he can stretch out pretty straight, but he seems to be most comfy curling in to that side. :face_savoring_food:

Glad to hear everyone has joined the clean plate party! Even if Curly is still being assisted its better than nothing

I’ve noticed that this is common with runty babies, I wonder if its due to the energy expense of the body in order to begin the shedding process, or lack of nutrients…? Or some other delayed developmental factor…

Interesting. I’ve also noticed this with teensy corns. It’s been the case with those who didn’t absorb their yolk completely before emerging, and with s couple of the smaller twins. Seems likely that there is some internal trigger for shedding when they reach some certain growth ratio post-hatching. I guess the ones who start smaller would logically take longer to hit that milestone.
