Freshly Shed Thread!

Thanks! I think Raiden is pretty amazing, too. He’s still got that bewitching coloring that I have always loved on hatchling Opals. That was a goal for my projects but I wasn’t expecting to hit it quite this way. Raiden’s coloring is actually better now than when he hatched because now it’s not just his saddles. His ground color is also that beauteous shade.

Raiden’s going to be a daddy soon. His mate Narcissa is Strawberry Anery Het Lavender, ph Amel, Charcoal, Diffused. Might get some more like Raiden from the pairing. They’ll be wonderful, even if the phets don’t happen. Should see pippies next week.

I like the colorful Cinders. Radish and her brother are both super pretty. Love Olivia’s snakes!

That’s amazing! So the homozygote…gets more red and bright? Or does the appearance change completely? He looks amazing now, I guess he’ll end up getting brighter!

I wasn’t aware anery in corns caused pattern loss, guess I haven’t seen many adults before. haha Gotta love genetics, especially when recessives are at play! Can really surprise you at times for sure.

Thank you! He really is a stunning jungle. I hope he proves het for VPI, but if he doesn’t he will absolutely help the color and cleanness in any of my projects. The Kahls definitely need more pastel love.

Wow! I can see some of the yellows (?) trying to come out near the head in these pics! But that could just be my laptop being in different lighting. lol

Wowzers! Freakie drop dead gorgous! That red/orange against the gray background is striking. The pattern looks like it wants to fade, but the color makes it stick out.

Wow Roan is also a stunner!! What were her genes? She looks like a super jungle, but I can’t tell if hypo, VPI, both, or something else. I don’t think I’ve seen her posted before. If she’s a super jungle, they tend to be more delicate and should be grown even slower than normal. Many don’t live long lives, but I have seen some healthy adults and even a few litters! That said, she looks about the size I personally expect for my yearlings, actually on the bigger side tbf, though she is on the slimmer side it’s nbd.

Raiden is a handsome lad! Really loving these light-colored pastel-ish corns being posted! I don’t know corn genetics well, but sounds like you’re gonna have quite the easter basket ahead of you.

Thank you! I’ve posted her a couple times in the boa constrictor thread iirc, she was my little lady that got stuck in the mail for an extra day.

As far as I am aware, she is simply a VPI Hypo Jungle het Blood - Here’s a pic of mom and dad;

According to the breeder, the pairing is Laby Hypo DH VPI Blood X Blood Jungle het VPI.

I will state for the record that pictures may be deceiving because I’m a small guy so I don’t have very big hands. She’s likely the smallest of my 4 yearling boas, but not by much. Would be a good idea to get them weighed lol. Eating like a champ though and hasn’t refused a meal. I do think she regurged her first meal with me, but I’m pretty sure I just offered too soon after her 48 hour shipping ordeal.

Plans are to hopefully put her to my Hypo IMG het VPI boy Tiki, so I guess if things work out and all the babies end up jungle we’ll know something wasn’t fully identified lol!

I don’t keep up with the boa thread anymore as I haven’t been on there in a few years and I haven’t figured out how to get to the bottom of the thread. I scrolled for aaaaages and didn’t come close.

It’s possible the het blood is making the eyes darker, and maybe the head stamp isn’t due to being homozygous, then. The eyes and that head stamp scream super to me, but could just as easily be caused by the het blood and the lineages used in the lab (some have heavy selective breeding behind them). It’s possible dad is also jungle, but depending on the litter outcome that makes that less or more likely. I would assume if it was a partho baby I would have been visual blood too.

As far as size, hard to say. My hands are also tiny, my iPhone 13 completely eclipses my hand in all directions. :joy: Which makes it even more hilarious when people tell me my snakes look bigger in person and not smaller.

That’s unfortunate and alarming to hear the regurge. Has she eaten and kept any meals down since? I wouldn’t expect feeding her too close to being shipped to cause a regurge, and paired with her lowered body tone it definitely sets off alarm bells if that’s the only meal she’s had with you so far or she hasn’t kept a meal down yet. Boas are very hardy, and don’t regurge easily if they’re healthy, and especially with her lowered body tone it does make me a tad nervous to hear.

I think IIRC I literally scrolled through the thread over the process of a few days to get to the bottom. Maybe that’s a feature we should suggest - A “jump to most recent post” option!

Knowing that hets can have some sway on phenotype, that was sort of my thought, that the het was making her look like this. I will say though, when talking to another person, he also thought there was something else going on and suggested super hypo. So who knows, maybe she really is super-something. If she is super jungle, it honestly would make sense given that she does seem a little more… “frail”? I’m not sure how to explain it, she doesn’t seem SICK at all and behaves just fine, just daintier than the other yearlings if that makes any sense. Probably due to her body tone, as you’ve pointed out.

Aside from that one incident, no issues since. This was back in February, I fed her the day after her arrival on the 20th and found the suspected regurge the next day. She’s taken at least 12 meals for me without issues since. I was originally feeding the young boas 12-15g mice weekly, but stretched it out to around every 10 days give or take and it seems to be working well for them. The mice aren’t huge, but do leave a noticeable lump. Another thought that occurred to me is that perhaps that first one I gave her was just a little too big for her. :grimacing:

That’s some nice pasta you got there! Are they all grumpy now that they can’t see?

Nah, they are a pretty chill bunch actually. There is one hissy one but it’s mellowed since hatching.

This year’s daddy-to-be gave me a shed yesterday! These pics were long overdue, it’s been a good while since I’ve gotten updated pictures on him.

Rayleigh here is a 2020 Super Pastel Cinnamon (aka Sterling) Ghost. It’s been awesome watching this little man grow up, he’s darkened significantly since he was a baby. For reference, here’s when I got him back in 2021 at about 6 months old!

Love this little lad, so excited to see his and Kimball’s babies!

Ooh Elijah! Rayleigh is going to produce some fantastic babies no doubt! Esp is any of them look like him! :ok_hand::+1:

That’s correct, with the clarification that the added color may be more coral or pink rather than red. Not to get too far into the genetic weeds, but it depends upon the rest of the colors.

There are a couple other genetic traits which can enhance corns’ colors, including the confusingly named Red Coat. Red Coat is inherited recessively and does some things you wouldn’t expect from the name. For example Aneries who are homozygous Red Coat don’t have any red but generally have much darker markings than typical Aneries. I think the trait got named before it was fully understood, though I could be wrong.
Him: “Why does that grey corn have such very black saddles?”
Her: “Oh, that one is Red Coat.”
Him: “I don’t see any red.”
Her: “That’s right.”

It’s no wonder folks find it boggling.
  :joy_cat:

He’s so handsome!! I live the way his colors fade into each other.

Yes, hopefully a little sooner. Their eyes went cloudy and blue very quickly, so I think it may be a little quicker than my estimate. I’m trying to temper my expectations though.

Since Kimball has pastel in her, he absolutely could produce some babies that look a lot like him! Only difference is they’ll only be het ghost rather than visual, but even then pewter or sterling at least tend to start off pretty silvery/grey. Excited to see what pops out in general since we’re also throwing mojave and GHI into the mix, but at minimum every baby is guaranteed pastel het hypo!

Thank you! I also love it, especially the subtle bit of yellow that’s there before it fades to the whites of his belly. :face_savoring_food:

I spent several days and wasn’t even halfway through…honestly I would just prefer an option for pages vs infinite scroll. If there isn’t one already. The scrolling overwhelms my computers (including my phone) if I want to look back more than a handful of replies, and it would be way easier to navigate.

I don’t think super hypos look any different than a heterozygous hypo, so that wouldn’t be my first thought. If she’s not super jungle, however, hopefully with some regular feeding she’ll perk right up!

That’s awesome that was the only incident! If she’s eaten that much, I am sure there’s probably already been a difference in her body tone since she first arrived, even if small.

He’s a handsome lad!! Congrats on the clutch, hopefully they hatch well and I bet they’ll all be stunners.

Oh yeah as with most anything else. haha That’s interesting for sure!

The red coat + anery makes sense though, considering how anery works. Like IMG + Kahl in boas cleans up and brightens the colors, at least in babies. Since there’s no melanin in Kahl, it enhances part of the appearance instead. But IMG minus the albino stripping melanin, the snake would normally go all black.

That would also make for a good option. I’ve used websites that you can choose between the two, I wonder if that would be particularly hard to impliment?

She’s definitely been doing well, all things considered. It is for sure something to keep in mind though, the possibility of her being super jungle, and I appreciate you pointing it out to me! I’ll be certain to be a touch more particular with her going forward.

She takes food like a champ and often has it swallowed down the fastest of the younger boas lol. This was her when she arrived, do you think you see some difference?

Oh no he’s so cute. I’m a sucker for the 8ball complex. I have a little guy that’s going to look a bit similar when he’s older, but he’s pastel cinny (super?) sandblast possible by het pied. I eventually may cross him in with my BEL ghosts.

He’s a very adorable little dude, been awesome watching him grow! You should definitely share your guy when you get the chance, he sounds like he’s gorgeous! Also love a good BEL ghost, if I ever get one I want to name it Boo lmao!

Nearly 2 months to the day and Riot decided to throw me another shed. He really has some of the coolest blushing in his pattern imo, can’t get over the colors on him!
