Hatched so tiny at 18g (maybe 14g can’t read my notes) Now is 28g. Not thriving but alive. Sibling born 24g now 38g just took first live fuzzy mouse. Lots of forced, assist and syringe feedings for both. Cautiously hopeful.
I hope they pull through for you! Although this little one may not be thriving yet it is good that they are gaining a bit of weight. I’ve seen some pretty small hatchlings from others end up doing really well with attentive care and patience, it just takes them longer that others.
I’m guessing this one maybe didn’t absorb its yolk before hatching? Its one of the most common causes of runts that I’ve seen.
not only were the eggs small but the inside was such a thick goo the yolks were left behind. These eggs were in same incubator and same way as 50 other clutches successfully hatched. Humidity was not the issue. Also was not tangled in cord that I noticed. The eggs were small but plump at the beginning. I feel lucky to have them surviving.
Have you bred the female/male in the past that produced this clutch with any issues? It could just be a fluke clutch but its always good to go back and check if there might be any issues outside of the clutch itself.
Idk if any of the genetics could be at play here because I’m still a bit of a newbie to learning about genetics and issues tied to them but there is a lot going on with the morphs of these guys from the Sire’s end especially.
Just throwing possible causes in hopes that the missing link (if any) can be found
I’m not near them now but I believe this F was her first clutch. I will check what her weight was when bred. That M did a few really good clutches for me.
EDIT: F was 2017 clutch, she was culled from someone else and I received late last year. Maybe this is the reason ??
2000g a month before mating.
2600g a month before laying.
1660g after lying.
A very healthy looking and feisty female at 1950g today and on the roster to receive a male TBD.
