How long can you keep a community tub of hatchlings. I read somewhere after it’s first shed to move them but I just watched an Always Evolving Pythons vid and seems like he had a lot in community tubs. How long would you guys do that?
i believe that most people that breed typically separate after the first shed.
That being said, my guess would be that he does that for his videos, or they’ve recently shed and he hasn’t separated them yet. you’d struggle to feed 6+ hatchlings in a 6 qt tub i’d imagine.
Agreed. I am no expert, but I would say before the first feeding for safety.
I wouldn’t want two grabbing the same pray.
But, if its more convenient, as soon as they hatch.
Most species probably would disperse soon after hatching anyway.
Hatchling community housing is done for convenience prior to their first feeding but not required. I keep them on moist paper towels that is kept very clean and changed often. This is more difficult to do with individual tubs. It also gives you a time buffer to prepare the exact amount of tubs needed for each hatchling. Once it is time to introduce prey items they need to be separated.
I separate after first shed, allow them to acclimate for a week and then try first feeding
Thanks for the responses. That all helps.
I separate my clutches as soon as they have all exited the eggs. Put them all into individual tubs on moist paper towels with a hide, then wait for that first shed and a week later I attempt to feed them. It’s not a popular thing to do but I feel like it minimizes their stress not being in a community tub. Just my opinion though
