Help! identify snake

A friend of mine found this snake in his yard!! I am almost certain this is a captive snake but others say it’s a king snake, but is it too big for a kingsnake?? I live in Tucson AZ and this is where it was found! If you have lost a snake that looks like this, let me know! What are everyone’s opinions on the type of snake??? Thanks!!!

Looks like a desert king to me, but don’t take my word on it. Exceptional specimens can get up to 6ft long.

Yeah it’s definitely big but this picture makes it look absolutely massive. I would definitely agree that is a desert cal king.

What is your friend holding the snake with? To me that snake doesn’t look real in the picture! Lol! :upside_down_face:

Agree with everyone about desert king. Also agree with @lumpy & @caron the pic makes it almost look fake/photoshopped. Maybe the way he is holding it and his stature, but looks crazy huge to me!

I agree with @banereptiles something is off in that picture. I’ve got a few big colubrids and my 7’ Pine Snake wouldn’t look that large in that situation. And it’s a few orders of magnitude bigger than the biggest Lampropeltis.

THis is called Forced Perspective, and was used in the Lord of the Rings film to change actors’ heights.
The snake is like three feet from the camera, and the person holding it is a good six feet back. What you don’t see is the stick the snake is on pointed toward you at eye level. It vanishes, making it look like the snake AND the person are in the same space.

I grew up in Tucson, what this picture fails to capture is the size of the balls it took to pick up that absolute unit. What an amazing experience getting to handle a (presumably) wild snake that size.

When I first saw the picture I thought it was someone holding a cobra with the snake tongs, but then I read what you wrote down. But it is a kingsnake I’m pretty sure
