Het pied markings

Hi there

Ive been watching a few videos on het pied markers. Im just curious to know if my
male has any of those genes. Will the best option be to wait till his paired up with a female
and then check what he produces?

Het pied markers as said on previous thread are usually white pied bits on the snake
I’m not sure if anything else is a marker for pied?..

There are a few post that talk about it and even videos. My guess would be that it is het pied. This is in no way 100% accurate and I would never sell one as het unless you know for sure. Currently the only way to know would be to breed it. Please keep us posted if you do. This is something that could help in the future.

Honestly I wouldn’t breed him. Do you have any reason to believe he is het pied besides track marks which are for sure not a :100: indicator. Do you have any pairing info at all? If you want to make pieds you are far better off buying a for sure het pied or pied male they are not very expensive at all especially a male het. Why not just buy something that is for sure instead. You don’t want to end up with a bunch of normal looking babies you can’t sell.

Not sure I would agree… Unless you do not want normals or have the space or a way to move normals.

Agree

@michael91 I was going on the assumption that the breeding was known and it could be het. This was my fault and should have checked before posting. Any idea on the paring?

Have you ever tried to sell a lot of normals? :100: het pied males are super cheap why not just buy one inside of trying to prove one out from a unknown pairing and in the process possibly creating a large number of hard to move normals.

He’s also het clown @saleengrinch
Assuming that’s why he was brought.

@ghoulishcresties We have 2 het posting going on. The other post stated the paring. I understand the confusion.

@saleengrinch There could be may reasons to want to breed. But I do agree full heartedly that if you want a pied or want to breed pieds, then start with a known pare.

I personally don’t think we should be encouraging producing a lot of normals by trying to guess hets. That’s why I asked if you have ever sold alot of normals not a huge market for it for someone starting out.

Yes, that thread is mine haha.

On a side note, if there were pied in the lineage of this snake, id say its likely het due to the tracks, however as @saleengrinch stated it is not a for sure indicator. Normals can have tracks, and hets may have none. But if you were trying to pic the hets out from normals, the odds are better if you grabbed ones with tracks. If you only want the pied gene, i agree with Shaun once again, 100% het pieds arent expensive at all, usually close to the same price as normals, go with the sure bet.

What was the pairing for him?
And what female you pairing Too?

@raregeneticsinc has a commercial test for het pied.

I would say those are pretty good markers and if you were told he is het pied based on parents he probably is. But if any doubt maybe not worth wasting a female het pied on as pointed out a for sure het male is cheap.

Maybe I’m lucky but reptile stores are happy to buy/trade rats for my normals.

Yes you can usually wholesale them if you have a good relationship with local shops. This might be something you would want to establish before producing a large number of normals. And some people are opposed to wholesale/selling to shops which if they are selling normals out right as someone new is going to be tough especially if you have a large number of them.

Also want to clarify I don’t have a problem with someone wholesaling to local shops.
