I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and helping to prove my point.
Doing a financial analysis regarding the statistical probabilities of one’s pairings says nothing in regard to their commitment for the animals. The blanket assumption that they’re “100% in it for the money” if they do so is illogical. Taking it a step further and wishing for bans that could cripple the hobby is even less logical and disappointing, but it helps illustrate what this line of divisive thinking can lead to.
Keepers at both hobbyist and business levels should be united in their genuine passion.
That is some dangerous and short-sighted rhetoric there. If you hate the hobby so much that you would be happy to see it shut down in its entirety, why are you even in it in the first place??
Really maybe read the entire thread before replying(specifically the part that says I did this for fun and thought it could be useful)…maybe you shouldn’t be on this forum or this hobby in general if your gonna say things like you want a ban to pass that would shut down this hobby
I think sometimes people have a misunderstanding of how financial models like this work and why they are valuable. This industry is no different at its roots than any other industry. You balance costs compared to profits and you make decisions based on analytics measuring all of those numbers. I personally do the same thing. I use 6 eggs as an average and another metric I think is very important is calculating 66% of females will actually produce. That is what I have seen. If I expect 9 pairing than I calculate 6 will actually produce eggs. I also calculate a 20% market drop. So if something sold for 10,000 today and I was to produce the same animal a year from now I estimate 8,000 next year. Really we as an industry need to stop be littling people for treating this like every other business model because like I said at its roots they are all the same with very specific things being different slightly
Agreed, (I guess you get this but for others - ) but there is no light without dark-- or no pleasure without pain. The biggest high for me is when i get something to work after much effort.
Sorry, just had to make the point for readers, not you specificaly.
However, I get the nerd numbers thing, if thats your bag then your like me, why not focus on over the top records. that does it for me, pluss I learn so much with the analysis of such.
Also, yes you can make money, but without love its not satisfying to me.
Personally I think life is about balancing doing what you love, family, time and doing what you need to for money to provide for your loved ones.
Edit: @nwilson21 Sorry, just noticed thats your your first post. Good points. Welcome to the community.
