I am new at breeding hognose. I used perlite for the incubator bin substrate but I am worried that it is too powdery for when they hatch. I noticed that the perlite I’ve seen in other’s videos has much larger bits than my bag of it had. But I am worried that the powder of the perlite will get in their nose and/or mouth. I would hate to change anything or disturb them before they are ready to hatch. What can I do or is it fine? I was thinking of waiting for them to pip and then quickly transferring to something else before they come out.

I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ll be just fine. In the wild, they’re hatching in sandy dirt.
