So I have extra wire fencing the type used for rodent racks. Do you think it’s possible to use that instead of the plastic divider everyone uses to incubate their eggs. And have the wire places so it’s a few inches from the moist substrate? Or does metal in the hatch boxes not work well.

I wouldn’t. Metal kept at 100% humidity will oxidize. Even stainless steel.

Where can I buy the plastic grid?
I belive the plastic grid you’re talking about is called an egg crate diffuser. I got mine at lowes but you can get them at most home improvement stores.

It’s a 2’x4’ light diffuser panel for acoustic T bar ceilings. They have them in the lighting section at lowes and home depot
