Inexperienced Male and Female Pair

As the topic says, I have an inexperienced pair together who both have never locked before. Anyone have tips to get these 2 to lock? They are literally on opposite sides of the tub from each other

Has the female given any indication that she building and receptive? Females won’t automatically breed just because you put a male in with her. She may just not be ready yet. Also how old and big are your pair? Are you totally sure they are both sexually mature? Also are you giving them time? Constantly checking on them may disturb them.

I will add to Shaun’s questions with the simple observation that it is a bit early to expect pairing right now. The majority of my action is seen between late January and mid to late April

The female is 3 years old and about 1900g, the male is a year old and 622g. I don’t check my pairings frequently, about once a day looking for locks

I’ve been cooling all mine for about 6 weeks now and have had successful locks with 3 other pairings

In my experiences I’ve had the best luck with males that are around 800 grams and at least a year and a half old.

Ball pythons will breed without cooling so just because you lowered temperatures doesn’t mean the females are actually building follicles or receptive to breeding. I would stop pairing for a month and try again. Female ball pythons breed on there schedule not ours unfortunately lol

I’ve had no issues with breeding males in the 500g range before, that’s why I’m puzzled on his lack of interest in her. It could just be her though. I had him together with another one of my females last week and he was very interested and she was scenting the tub plenty (the female he is in with right now is not) however he went into shed the day after putting them together so I pulled him. Another breeder who is one of my good friends recommended putting her to a more experienced male to sort of jump start her. Thoughts on that??

I was just going to ask if you had some nice music and maybe candle light. I mean it is both of their first times.

Yeah, I’ll go back to my room.

Is she giving any indication that she is interested in breeding or showing signs of building? If both are no I wouldn’t stress her out with a constant companion. I would personally wait a month.

Other than her packing on 200g since I started cooling thats it, I haven’t caught her on the cool end of the tub but then again I haven’t caught any of my breeders who are building on the cool end. To be fair they’ve also only been together for about 12 hours so I could just be overreacting. I guess we’ll see again in a month lol

I actually dimmed the lights and put on Marvin Gaye “Let’s get it on” before I went to bed last night lmao

Hahaha

I’m still relatively new to breeding snakes but seems like she is not ready. I agree, remove the male and start again in a month or so.
