Juvenile getting ready to shed!

I just checked on ICY and I believe she is getting ready to shed… her eyes seem to be going to a smoky cloudy color … should I still try feeding her tomorrow? Will she still want to eat before going into shed?

Probably not, most of our snakes don’t like to eat when shedding. But you can still try if you want too.

We tend to wait till they have finished shedding.

I would just not feed her because more than likely she will refuse it. When a snake is going into shed it is best just to leave them alone and raise humidity. Her eyes will go completely cloudy and then they will go clear again. And from that point it will be a few days before she sheds. Also I would recommend not handling while she is in shed because it can distress the snake because their vision is impaired.

It all depends on the python, really. Only a few of mine are selective about eating in blue, a hungry snake is still usually a hungry snake, in my experience. They also hunt with the heat pits on the front of their faces/upper jaw, so ocular vision isn’t exclusively how a python finds a meal successfully.

My 2 males will eat in full blue! :joy:

Given she is new to your home, if it was me… I’d leave it till she has finished her shed.

Today has been the 7th day since her last feeding… would you still hold off trying to feed? I’m just concerned about her starving since I don’t know how long sheddings usually last.

She doesn’t look small enough to worry about an extra week without food, Ball Pythons go off-feed sometimes, and may not eat for several weeks to several months. Keep her water filled up and clean, and make sure you keep the humidity up in where she’s at, she should shed within the week if she’s in blue, though.
