Gotta say, Dot looks Diffused to me in that image. The lateral markings I expect to see with Stripe in the absence of Tessera, at least on the anterior quarter of the animal, don’t appear to be there. The dorsal markings and general coloring have a softened, Diffused look to me. But that’s only one picture and my eyes are admittedly very tired.
I am off to bed, too! You are right her sides are clear, but it’s because she is both sk and stripe, which has smoothed the sides and made only dots along her spine. Here’s a top view:
I’ll reach out to Russell and see if she might possibly have diffused, though. That would be an unexpected blessing for all the projects I plan to use her in!
I do not. But there’d be an almost twenty year gap, so I don’t know how valuable the records would be. I’d have some reservations about it anyway. Just looking at the ID errors at Iansvivarium makes me skeptical about user submitted data.
Dot is pretty. The extra RF coloring is very well saturated. I’m still not seeing the lateral marking I expect to see in a Stripe, not even in her baby pics. Hmm… I haven’t produced SK Stripes, though. Maybe that lateral pattern reduction is more usual with them? I mean, yes, I know it is. I guess I haven’t looked closely at how much more wiped away away it is in little ones since I don’t work with it. @deanaii, what say you? That’s your wheelhouse.
Yeah, there’s definitely side pattern reduction with SK Stripe, but usually there are still some broken bits and dashes. But if you add Tessera, you see side pattern elimination and sometimes even ALL pattern elimination. I don’t have personal experience with that, but I’ve seen lots of pics of SKT Stripes from Chantel Carpenter in South Africa.
The registry would be awesome for a few reasons: I’d love to see how often cousins lines are crossed back in, we’d all have a better feel for all the true possible hets; and finally, that paper @caryl is sporting carries some unbeatable coolness points!
Nice to still score a few cool points here and there in my geezerdom.
I dunno about these guys. I have been running around all day doing doctor stuff and being poked and prodded. Now I’m sore.
I might mention that I have suspicions, but at this point that’s all it is. Looking back at more of Beau’s younger pics, as well as O’Henry baby-to-now I’m suspicious. I am also suspicious that Peach coloring might very well cover the white areas of Pied. I was frustrated in some ways with areas on Beau which stayed white for ages. Now I wonder. I think I’ll try contacting a couple of folks who might have thoughts there. I didn’t intend to work with Pied. Still don’t plan to, just having suspicions it’s there.
With the Peach stuff I am aiming for total saturation. Like this pretty girl from Beau and Amoret in 2024, for example. Yes, she looks fake in real life. Compare Connie with my hand.
Maybe. I mean, I won’t be intentionally pursuing Pied. If Beau was an indicator then yes, Pied slows saturation of Peach although it didn’t stop it. If anything, Peach seems to eventually cover the Pied spots.
Been considering this concept. If I’m correctly interpreting other things I’ve read, the absence of checkers on Diffused bellies is because the pattern doesn’t migrate down from the spinal ridge during development. The white along the sides has the same origin, pattern not making down rather than belly white coming up. Same visual, of course, just a different cause than we might first assume. Pied is sort of a more extreme allele, causing the pattern to stop even sooner.
But then there’s the whole high/low/no expression thing and nobody seems to know yet how that works. I won’t be the one who sorts it, I can promise you that!
You’re exactly right with that Neural Crest Migration stuff. I always think of a Masque’s checkers, for example, as being pushed to the side. But it’s more that they never reached the midpoint of the belly.
