Let’s see some Inverts

Yes I probably feed mine a little too often. I usually feed on Sunday or Monday evenings. Once my room is rearranged and reorganized and there is a better space for the tarantulas, that will probably change. I’m planning on everyone having a dedicated shelf space to I can observe them much better. Unfortunately I have several stacked at the moment. But all should be arranged by the end of next week. Plus I have to rehouse three of them. But can’t until the juvenile geckos get rehoused next week. Which can’t happen until I get new plants into those enclosures. And that won’t happen until this weekend.

I know I feed mine too often because crickets come in on Thursdays and then I feed on Fridays……

@caron It’s true that more secretive spiders can be trickier to observe with their body condition, but Dave (of Dave’s Little Beasties YouTube channel) has talked about how even fossorial tarantulas will often emerge from their burrows when they get hungry enough. Waiting for them to emerge is a good signal that it’s time to feed them and ensures you’re not over-feeding, and it also means that you actually get to see the spider, which is nice.

I found that theory to hold true with my curly hair when she was still really shy. She mostly stayed in her burrow…until she got hungry enough. Then she’d come out. Granted, my sample size is limited to a single specimen, but it could be worth giving a try.

Also, not feeding on a set schedule gets harder the more spiders you have. I only have 4, and they’re all in my bedroom where I can frequently observe them. If I had dozens or hundreds of spiders, I’d probably have to feed on more of a set schedule just to ensure nobody got forgotten. So I get that the way I feed won’t necessarily be a viable option for every keeper or every spider.

Mine acts pretty laid back too. Spends most of her time hiding, unless you come in a few hours after lights out with a flashlight.

Awwwwwww! This one came out when I spritzed the enclosure. For the most part she stays inside her cork round where she molted. When I saw the molt I reached in with tongs and pulled it out……

Thank you Jennifer! She has really gotten big! Of course she was a nice size when I got her. She came from Josh’s Frogs as well.

(Oops! I hope I could say that?).

It’s my understanding that you can say where you got an animal, you just can’t give a “review” or publicly recommend them over other vendors. So I think you’re fine! (Though hopefully a mod will correct me if I’m wrong on that.)

I gotta get myself an arboreal or two. But I’ve realised that I really need to clear out some space for more enclosures. I have some space on a table and my second dresser…I just need to find places to put all the stuff I’ve piled on those surfaces over the years. :joy:

That is correct

I found it! It’s so cute and tiny! I can tell it’s matured a bit since it’s not white anymore. Very cool!

I think the mantis oothek I found is empty already BUT I found a jumping spider in my bedroom and decided to hang on to him for a little while. He/she? They could do with some fattening up, and it’s a lean time of year. So for right now I have them in the former mantis box but I will be moving them to something much more suited and smaller shortly.
When they’re hungry enough, they will apparently lower themselves to slurping the juice out of some Trichorhina tomentosa Dwarf White Isopods, the only thing I had to hand to offer today. Tomorrow I can pick up some fruit flies to offer.

I also moved the entire Conglobation Station (i’m sorry i blame Clint Laidlaw) into a new prettier box for their home. I have a mixed lot of isopods and that’s the name that stuck. They now live in a tidy looking acrylic box and not an ugly modded bin, because I keep them on the counter in the bathroom and I wanted a more ~aesthetic~ enclosure. Also this way I can see them burrowing along the sides.

Edit: Here’s the Spooder- Phidippus regius possibly
