Well, I can’t say for sure, but I believe I finally made the Abyss Pied! I just cut clutch #24005 and one of the hatchlings definately looks the part. They aren’t out of the egg yet, but here is a preview:
I should know for sure in a day or two. Also, hatchling #2 from clutch #24003 above has shed again and is definitely NOT an Abyss Pied.
Fingers crossed for a male!

Well, it’s out of the egg! It definitely looks like I made the Abyss Pied! I will send in it’s second shed (first shed can have dna from the mother) for testing of GHI. That will tell me if it is Super GHI as well. Please excuse the vermiculite I missed cleaning off.
As a bonus this is the clutchmate that has also emerged.
Let me know what you think!

I actually really like the look of that low white pied too.
Beautiful little ones.

I CAN’T think because I’m too busy being jealous that you hatched such a stunning snake! I mean, I love Suma Pieds for their dark coloring and hope to get one someday, but this is just on a whole other level!

I also thought the egg might contain moms DNA and best to wait for second shed but that question came up in an RGI podcast at one point and Dr Morrill indicated there is a long history of using bird egg shell lining for testing and it’s proven that the egg contents have the same genetics as the baby.
So no reason to wait for second shed. Maybe you could even test preshed with egg blood?

I can be patient and wait for shed results. The only real unknown is if it’s Super GHI or not. This will be a hold back either way.

I used to think I was a patient person. For some reason waiting for new tests to come out, snakes to shed, and results to post drives me nuts. Way better than spending 4 years growing up and breeding like the old days but somehow doesn’t seem fast enough.
