It’s completely normal for cresties to have dips like that, I think the lighting makes it seem more obvious in the photos. As far as im aware the depth/length of the dip has more to do with individuality rather than any potential ailment
Awww i have one that is skiddish around me too. Makes me sad.
Nope, he moves around normal, bends his tail, doesnt seem to be hunched. He was climbing on the top of my cage right before i left like a little ninja.
Oh good because i really dont want something wrong with him. He is going to be my mate to Perdita next season.
If you take a look at your other ones you’ll likely find that most of them, if not all, have it to some degree! It also really depends on angles and lighting, and ive noticed that it’s often more obvious on LWs and Phantoms.
So the reason I raised this was because most mine do not have this and those that do, don’t have it any where near as obvious.
The first couple of pics I didn’t notice a curve in the back but the last few ones make it seem as though he does
It probably is the pictures, but I’d rather raise it…just incase.
Hopefully it’s nothing if so… Sorry for the scare
Better safe than sorry, but yeah i really don’t see a reason to worry. Idk if having a more obvious dip is desirable in breeding, or if it’s inheritable, but it has nothing to do with either MBD, FTS, or dehydration at least, it’s more so about the aesthetics of it. If
if it did half the geckos on my for you page on instagram would be having problems, ive seen some where the dip went all the way up their dorsal
Pongo also seems to have a more narrow dorsal so that could affect the obviousness of it as well i imagine.
Okay this makes me feel better. I just got back from Canada so once they are awake tonight ill take him out and check him out. Ill also snap a few more photos as well. Could be the lighting and the angle as he was sitting on the cauldron all funky lol.
Are they still together? Or is this another pairing?
Make sure you’re quarantining before hand to be safe, I know a few who’ve had their collections wiped out for unknown reasons. Just added another crestie and bam. Gone.
I don’t see a dip so no FTS etc imo.
Its the same 2, i put them together for a few to bond. Im only sticking with 1 male to 1 female.
Cresties don’t ‘bond’ really, like we hope they would.
They breed and that’s it, Keeping a pair together isn’t advised as weight loss can be an issue and egg bounding if so. Males are relentless and it’s unfair to the female to have a male non stop wanting to breed with her.
I would keep alone and only put together for a few days when pairing.
I agree with ghoulish cresties. Keeping males with females puts stress to the female as the male will likely try to constantly breed.
I wouldn’t recommend keeping them together. However if you are planning to do so, if recommend a big enclosure. 45 X 45 X 60cm doesn’t give many hiding options for the female to get away from the male.
