New Job and new faces!

I have finally secured a placement for my Year in Industry as part of my university degree. I plan to share updates and cute pics of the wonderful animals that I’m soon going to be working with! I’d first like to introduce this cutie. Any ideas on what he is? Drop your comments below!

A species of iguana, maybe green iguana?

Nope he’s not a green iguana, he’s a juvenile of his species which may help in identifying him

Fiji iguana?

No he’s not a Fiji iguana either but I can see the resemblance between the two. He is a relatively common species to see in pet shops in the uk. Not so commonly found in the USA. Another clue for you is that they are native to China and mainland South East Asia!

Chinese water dragon?

He sure is! I’d love to own a few of these myself but they are hard work to care for. Maybe in a few years I’ll see if the opportunity arises for me to have my own. One of my favourite agamids! :lizard:

Wow really? He doesn’t look like one… :flushed:

That was my exact response when I first saw him! :joy: he appears a lot more vibrant in colour than any other I’ve seen. His eyes aren’t fully open in the pic, must have just woken up from a nap!

What would you think he was out of curiosity? @ghoulishcresties

To me a Fiji. Looks nothing like a Chinese water dragon…

Fiji below which I think it is…

Chinese water dragon below. It does not look like one of them…

Glad you’ve backed up my original thought as to what he is! He’s labelled up as a Chinese water dragon at the animal centre. This will be my first correction when I begin working there. Anybody else feel like this is a case of wrong identification by the animal centre? He is a new addition to the place so maybe they aren’t as clued up as some of you guys  it was his colouration and face shape that made me doubt his label.

Ok thank gosh you thought he was labelled wrong too :joy:
Yeah that’s a Fiji!
Bit strange that an animal centre have mislabelled an animal though since they should know what they’re doing?… Maybe check the rest out too to make sure all correct since you obviously knew it was wrong also!

Its only a small venue that have recently started adding more reptiles. It originally started as a place for exotic plants about 30 years ago. Their collection is still growing to this day! They even have meerkats and caiman crocodiles! Obviously not together :joy: the manager there is very open to changes as we are all still learning  there is also another mistake I’ve noticed with the labelling of Latin names:confused: I’ll make sure things are changed!:joy:

Am I the only one who thinks that he might not be labeled incorrectly, given that he is a juvenile?

I think that they would know if they got a fiji iguana, they aren’t something you see all the time. A chinese water dragon would be the opposite, you see those everywhere. Occam’s razor/when you hear hoofbeats think horse, not zebra apply here. The best way to find out is to wait and see how it grows. Do you have a good picture of it’s side? I believe @welshmorphology has bred fiji’s so she might be able to identify if it is or isn’t an iguana.

It’s 100% not a Chinese water dragon. Having worked with in college and see them everywhere I’m certain of that.
It’s a Fiji for sure. That’s all it looks like
I’ve shown a couple breeders who have said Fiji also.
So been mislabelled for sure.
Anyone else on here breed them? They’re an amazing iguana so would love to see some
