To me it was also the face shape.
It’s everything. Igs have different eyes than agamids
Even the sign pattern you can tell it’s Fiji
Update: So it turns out there was a breeding pair of Chinese water dragons in the enclosure that now houses the Fiji iguana, until he grows a little more for the enclosure that has been built for him! I have officially started at my job and was lucky enough to see the new Mexican beaded lizard that will soon be on display as soon as the quarantine ends (1 more week). I find these lizards to be very interesting as there are only 2 types of venomous lizards in the world, I believe? Will hopefully get some quarantine pics and post later!
Slight delays in the construction of the beaded lizard enclosure so here’s a great pic of Haku the Asian Water Monitor
I think there are three species of venomous lizard- gila monsters, Mexican beaded lizards, and komodo dragons.
@mblaney wasn’t sure on the komodo dragon. Has it been proven that they secrete venom? I believe its more of a bacterial substance the same as monitors. What are other people’s thoughts on this? I have a colleague who believes that monitors are venomous as well
I think it’s both. It was originally thought that it was only bacteria but I think it was proven that they also secrete slight amounts of venom into their prey.
Ah I see, so maybe it’s not fully recognised as a pure venomous lizard as there are other factors involved.
I think they’re considered venomous, upon further research some sources say they don’t have bacteria to kill prey at all. I think it’s too early for their research to make a final judgement.
Researchers have definitely dismissed the idea of bacteria as a myth and komodo dragons have been proven to be venomous. I’ve read it all over the place from respected sources. I can only remember one source off the top of my head, but googling it should clear it up really fast.
