So for 2022 i wanna finally get into the breeding hobby for leopard geckos, At the moment I’m still looking for an incubator, a place to house baby geckos and a pair. I was wondering whtch morphs arent average but still mid price. So if you can please help me out on which morph i should first start working with. Thanks!!!
Always work with a morph you love that you are excited to work with. You’re very very unlikely to make any significant money breeding leos (as with almost all reptile breeding), so everything you breed should be a passion project. Never produce more offspring than you are willing to keep yourself if you cannot find homes for them.
For a starter incubator, I just use a basic Hovabator (model without the fan).
I agree, don’t expect to make any profits. You could easily spend thousands before getting a single dollar (I did). Look around on the marketplace for geckos that you would like to produce. Then, work towards that goal. Buy high quality animals. If you buy ones from craigslist or with unknown genetics it just results in spending more money. One of the biggest expenses is food, you want to find a cheap source of food or start your own colonies before you get geckos. The only food that you can feed them as a main staple are dubias, hornworms, or silkworms. Dubias are by far the easiest and cheapest.
