One slug layed 14 days after pre lay shed

Have to say that in the last picture of her in the sink, her body doesn’t look kinked? if you will…… but I do agree with @caryl. The vet should have prescribed an antibiotic just to be on the safe side.

Hope she pulls through all of this ok….

She’s 6 years old and I think the runny poop makes her not gain weight. She had an antibacterial and B12 shot in 2022 when I originally did the decal sample test. I don’t have access to the tracking app anymore but she was 1500 g when I could stay to feel follicles months ago. She definitely put on weight after that but I didn’t attempt to weigh her.

The vet did not give her any injections at all.

Does anybody see any usual information from the X-ray? The vet said he sees possible egg on the right hand side and also on the left hand side after the black splotch which I think is her lungs?

Lack of weight gain suggests something might be up with her. I’d say a repeat fecal plus maybe bloodwork might be worth pursuing. I’m quite surprised the vet didn’t prescribe antibiotics with her presenting symptoms, considering the look of those eggs I’d have started there just to be cautious.

As for the x-ray, there’s definitely something near her vent and possibly higher as well. You can tell due to the distension of her body cavity and the difference in opacity. The black you’re seeing isn’t lung I don’t think, looks to be air in either the digestive or reproductive tract.

Going to tag @chesterhf, I know you weren’t exotics but you might be able to give at least some insight here from a veterinary standpoint.

While I have been following this thread, alas I don’t have really any veterinary expertise and would be hesitant to give any advice or insight without the knowledge base behind it.

However I very much agree with you about the weight, and that caught my attention too as I thought she looked rather small in the images. Personally I think an undersized female that has showed coninued digestive probles isn’t a good candiate for breeding and there might be some underlying health issue at play here

I’ll rerun a fecal sample at a different vet at first opportunity and see about blood work and antibiotics next week. The vet was more so pushing for a hormone that he says he gives to turtles more often to help her have contractions.

I guess for now I’m just going to wait and see if she passes those remaining eggs. I’m torn between offering a meal or waiting even longer but I guess it’s safer to wait.

If she’s in blue don’t feed her. Going into shed so quickly again is a big warning that she’s already not feeling well. It happens from major stress, illness or injury. So feeding her now would mess with the shedding process and also potentially make the issue of her being egg bound worse.

Oxytocin is often used on egg bound snakes to help with moving them along. It might be a good idea to call your vet and ask if they think that would be helpful here.

I am sorry for all that you and your snake are going through, @easton3. I believe it was @noodlehaus who mentioned it first, but I do agree that it seems she should have been put on antibiotics.

If possible, I recommend getting a second opinion. This isn’t a negative reflection on any medical personnel, it’s simply recommended practice for animals and for humans. Not all vets who work with exotics are necessarily familiar with snakes in dystocia. They may specialize in birds, for example.
Something is very much not right with your girl. The weight loss is worrisome.

How’s this girl doing? Any luck so far?

She’s still not shed yet. She looks alert and normal. Going to feed the day after she sheds, wait two days then take her to vet if I can’t get the mobile exotic vet to make a house visit before. I feel good about it but still worried because I don’t know how long she can safely have whatever’s left inside of her sitting there.

My girl took about three weeks from the first bad looking egg that dropped until she had deposited the last one and I could feel she was empty.

Any progress with her yet, or is she still taking her time?

Since last update she has shed and eaten a small rat. I really can’t feel anything inside of her but she seems to be acting normal. She definitely does not have any egg-shaped lumps left inside of her but I’m assuming she does have shells, I really don’t know what else to do.

I’m waiting for her to go to the bathroom so I can get a fecal sample and I figure at the same time I’ll get a blood sample at the vet.

At this point I don’t think I have any worries that she’s going to fall ill… So idk.

Thanks EVERYONE again
