Proud reptile parent moment

Am I the only one who has sort of a proud parent moment when I see my pythons getting clean strikes straight to the head on their rats? I would post a picture of one of my bp’s clean strikes, but I don’t think I’m allowed to post feeding pics.

If not live, and blurred then you should be able too. Put a warning above blurred photo also :blush:

I don’t think you’re allowed to post any feeding pictures because it could be used against the hobby by animal rights groups. I think the only way it would be allowed is if it was edited so there was a box over every part of the rodent.

I’ve seen feeding images before on here, but they’re blurred?

Some slip through (it’s not allowed but they weren’t removed), but as long as they don’t contain any animals being eaten (other than insects) they are allowed. For example, a mouse head/tail/leg feeding wouldn’t be allowed but if it was cut up fish/heart/meat that looked nothing like an animal it’s allowed.

I didn’t know that! Very sad about that though, I would’ve loved to see your pics! I don’t own any pythons myself (yet… :eyes:), I currently only have geckos. But I do seem to have a proud parent moment when my gecko goes straight for a cricket! I was feeding one of my babies (his name is Bandito) and he lunged at crickets AND mealworms all at once! I was proud but also found myself telling Bandito, “dude, chill.” :rofl: This is a picture of him a day after he hatched :heart_eyes: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:!! Can I see some pics of your bp??

Yeah, unfortunately can’t post any feeding pictures on here!

So I personally feed live… Some of my ball pythons are more patient and methodical about their hunting strategies, and usually wait until the right moment to strike the head/shoulder — meanwhile others will just go for whichever side is closest to them, they’re lucky I’m usually closely supervising so no injuries occur :woman_facepalming:

You can totally see some pics of my bp! Always happy to share some pics. He is a low expression scaleless head pos het pied. I could prove him out through breeding but I don’t plan on breeding him. As a little bonus in the picture of me holding him you can see my corgi.

@rmleone
It’s not a big deal, we’ve pretty much all made similar mistakes (I’ve accidentally broken plenty of rules here). Everything you’ve been doing for your animals is above and beyond.

@garciademueller
He is super beautiful (and so is your corgi, lol).

Yes, feeding pictures are against our community guidelines and should be removed from the post after a flag is sent and approved. There are however very slight exceptions, that are decided on by staff, which may include, documented feeding evidence ( ball python eating ball python ) and bite pictures ( on an owner, but these are also subject to removal). These exceptions would have a warning and be blurred, but besides those reasons, they would be removed and the post flagged.

This is not to stop the celebrational proud parent moments. We have noticed animal rights activists and those that are personally against our hobby have used pictures such as these as evidence against us. Don’t give me wrong I wanted to share a feeding picture when I first fed Willow her first FT meal, but I understood and can see in hindsight it would’ve been possibly a bad choice for a hobby as a whole.

Also as a sidenote, none of these things would result in anyone getting banned or suspended. I personally have been flagged multiple times, and I’m staff lol :joy:. I personally don’t recommend you break the guidelines because they are geared to provide us with a positive family like atmosphere. And obviously if you are intentionally breaking the guidelines, further action would be taken. As I said, I have been flagged before and honestly everyone makes mistakes and forgets the community guidelines once in a while. Love you guys :blush:.

I removed my own Orange Crush photo after i found it was not allowed.

Most of those activists actually have 0 knowledge, i cringe when i read something they write. I guess they must think our animals eat tofu :joy:

We get our animals because we love them and care for them greatly. I always advocate for captive born and that should a person become unable to care for their animals, that they would find a caring home and not just dump them or let them die.

I’ve accidentally posted feeding pictures before, mostly because it was funny and in my excitement I forget that it was against guidelines :joy:

Honestly, I have been flagged 15 times (some approved and others rejected). It happens, and we are all are learning. There is 100% a difference between not caring about breaking them and accidentally forgetting them. We all love you the same Holly.

It really depends on the snake. You can get bps that stay 3ft their whole life or you can get giant females that get five feet long. If you’re looking for a larger snake, get a female bp, if you’re looking for a medium to small snake, get a male.

Thank you! If you want to get good looking photos that showcase the colors of your animals, the most important thing is lighting. It doesn’t even have to be fancy lighting. For that top picture all I did was take a lamp from a nearby enclosure and I propped it up so it was facing him from a side angle. That’s what gave it that glowing effect and what made his colors really shine.
