What is the highest temp recommended to ship a Leopard Gecko with a phase 22 ice pack? I have a buyer in Ft. Worth and highs are around 105. I think that I may be safe shipping Priority overnight to a hub but want some opinions.
When in doubt, I would contact one of the shipping companies for the final say.
I personally would be very hesitant because even just moving from the airport to the hub can be much warmer. I’d wait until it’s cooler. Any new owner should understand you’re prioritizing safety.
Probably going to have to wait a few months to ship to Fort Worth. I’m an hour south. Most reptile shippers wont offer insurance with the highs over 100 degrees. Just watch the weather and look for a cold front. Which will lower the temps to the 90’s. I would seriously recommend waiting.
Good advice.
Personally, I don’t ship in the kind of temps you’re asking about, @twisted_by_design. Most people understand waiting for the animal’s safety. Last summer, someone in Yuma bought a couple of my baby corn snakes. It took quite a few weeks before temps were such that it was safe to ship, which was fine.
Just to add, if they don’t understand and aren’t happy, your animal is probably better off elsewhere.
Thanks for all the help. We are going to wait for temps to get below 100 degrees and then I will ship to a FedEx ship center to be held for pick up. With lows in the 80’s and Priority overnight delivering there before 10:00 temps should be ok. Again I will be shipping with a phase 22 ice pack as well. And again, we’re waiting for high temps to drop back into the 90’s.
Sounds like a good plan. If you can do so, drop the shipment off as late in the day as possible. That keeps it from sitting in a hot warehouse awaiting its trip to the airport.
Will do. Our temps here though are perfect - upper 70’s to low 80’s. So even in TX the temps are dropping into the 80’s overnight so if the package gets to the ship center between 9:00/10:00 the next morning we should be ok. I’d still want highs to drop down into the 90’s though. 105 is just too hot imo.
With the highs in the 100’s, the reptile shipping companies won’t offer insurance either.
