So I have a male Tarahumara, and he is 2 years old exactly this month on the 29th. He weighs 460 grams and he’s 3ft long, like exactly, if not a tiny bit over. Is this a good size for my guy? He doesn’t look fat or anything. I got him from Brian Boas and he said that he’ll probably get to 4ish feet, I’m guessing like 4.5 or something like that with the way he’s growing. Can boas stop growing at like 2 years? I keep hearing that Tarahumara only get like 3 ft. I’m just a bit confused on boa growth trajectory because they’re all so crazy different, and I’ve read about normal boas being as big as my guy is atm at the same age. I’ve also seen other dwarves that are supposed to be bigger stay at like 2.5 ft for a female (Crawl Cay for example) and basically these boa sizes are just messing me up lol. Does he sound alright or am I doing anything wrong? Is he too fat? Thanks!
Edit to say that I follow proper feeding guides so I’m not over or under feeding or anything.
What a handsome little fella he is! I do not have first hand experience with these guys but they do stay on the small side. He looks great and perfectly healthy! As far as length goes, I had a CA boa that grew to 10 feet with 7 feet being about the longest she was supposed to grow. So imho I don’t believe there is any set in stone number of feet a boa will be guaranteed to grow.
However since he is an adult I would begin feeding every 3 weeks instead of 2. I am tagging @tommccarthy for his input. He is quite knowledgeable in the boa world. He may totally discount what I have said so I want to be sure you get sound advice…..

Thank you! And wow, a CA boa getting that huge is crazy. I have seen a 5ish foot tarahumara male and a few females that were 6 but idk if they were overfed or something. I guess you just never know with boas.
He looks good to me! Well fed, but I wouldn’t call him overweight or anything. I agree with pushing out to 3 weeks, weaned rats should be the correct size. If I had to guess, some of those 2.5’-3’ Tara sizes could come down to feeding and age. People feeding them to purposely keep them smaller as long as possible, and also not having many 10+ year olds to compare to. I would say up to 5’ would be a reasonable expectation even for a male, just depends on how you feed them. They can grow a long time if they aren’t pushed fast. I don’t think your boy is being fed enough you have to worry about him stopping growing any time soon, but he may end up a tad bit larger than you expected. Idk if he’ll get over 5’, Taras are outside my experience.
Thank you! Yeah, it’s very difficult to find anyone with proper adults. Most seems at most maybe 5 years which I did hear was around the stopping point, but sometimes the difference between 5 and 10 years is quite stark in boas. I’m not sure if this would be so crazy different in dwarves. I’m just wondering about a general size, and 4-5 ft is perfectly fine, but I was just worried I was doing something wrong since he seems a little larger than typical at this age for a male. It would also be weird if he stopped growing at 2 years since everyone says the size he is now is pretty much max so it’s confusing lol. I will back off his feeding to every 3 weeks then! He will definitely not like that hahah
