They CAN store sperm for over a year AND PIP!

It is indeed! Hoping that she continues to improve. She’s in her post-lay shed cycle now, of course. I’m hopeful that she’ll feel like herself after she sheds.

Things are proceeding along in a positive direction with Sceptre and her long-delayed eggs. Sceptre had a normal post-lay shed yesterday evening. She then had a small meal. This time, eating did not cause another prolapse! Yay!! This morning she looks like a normal snake. Yay again! I can still feel one of the mystery lumps at about mid-body. The lower one appears to be gone.

The eggs are still looking like any other egg, sitting there in incubation, developing apparently normally. Egg #3 has the most vein development visible with candling, and is beginning to show shadowy embryonic development, too. (No pic of#1, but it looks much like #2.)

I’m sorry, having trouble loading pics. My internet signal is lousy today. I’ll keep trying.

So glad to hear she’s still going strong! Perfect shed, perfect feeding, hopefully soon that last lump dissipates and she’s good as new and able to get to enjoying her retirement.

I’m hoping that will be the case. Thanks!

Sceptre continues to slither an uneven path to full recovery. The smaller, more caudal bump in her body has moved much further toward her vent. Last night it was about 3" from the vent. It moved a bit overnight but not much. Per veterinary advice Sceptre had a swim this morning. She passed a bit more waste in the water (she had passed a normal amount yesterday) and was visibly contracting afterward. The bump now appears to be stuck about 1.5" anterior to the vent, and she seems relaxed. She’s showing no visible distress.

She’s going to have another swim later. After the swim, I’m going to try lubricating her tract. Then it’s hoped that she will finish expelling this bump. It’s presumably a bad egg, of course. Poor girl, I just wish she was done!

I’m glad that she’s getting better! Hopefully the bump passes soon!

I do hope everything passes with no further issues. At least she’s not in any distress, and perhaps more hydrotherapy will be all she needs.

Oh my goodness, gracious! I’ve got good news to share. Dan got home, and while he was preparing to help, I got things laid out to try giving Sceptre’s vent some lubrication. When I opened the viv, I saw that she still had a bump by her tail. If anything, it looked a bit bigger than when I’d last checked about midday. I offered her fresh water, which she drank. She didn’t seem distressed but I could see contractions by the lump. When Dan joined me, I lifted Sceptre’s hide and AN EGG FELL OUT OF IT!!

After I picked up my lower jaw, I palpated her gently. There’s still a bump by her vent, but that’s apparently the egg which has consistently been located about mid-body. There is nothing at mid-body now. She’s empty all the way down to that final bump near her vent. Apparently in the past few hours she’s expelled one egg and moved the other “down the line.” Hopefully soon she’ll get that final one out and she’ll be done. Good work, Sceptre!

That’s great!! Hopefully she can get that next one out soon. Out of curiosity, is the egg fertile?

I’m curious myself. I don’t think so, its texture feels like a slug, but I put it in a container anyway. It’s smaller than the three which seemed fertile and are actually developing, but it’s just iffy enough that I’m going to "incubate until there’s no debate. "

Thank God, Sceptre is DONE. She passed another egg, has nothing left on palpation. She shows no further indication of prolapse. Neither of today’s eggs look to be fertile but what the heck, there’s space so I went ahead and put them in to incubate.

Today was day 443 since that single lock with Artephius. It’s been 15 days since the first eggs were laid. I will offer another smallish meal on Friday, after which I hope Sceptre can resume her normal schedule.

Thank you so much to all of the wonderful community members who have provided support through this strange experience. :heartbeat: It has meant so much!

So excited and relieved to hear that Sceptre is done with the eggs and had no further prolapse issues!

So glad to hear that her ordeal (and yours) finally seems to be over and that she’s doing well. Very happy that she was able to pass the last two eggs on her own without prolapsing again. She’s certainly earned her retirement!
