My dairy cows demolish whole pinky mice on under a day .
Catching up on things I missed here. I don’t actually have anything useful to add to the good advice already given.
But I HAVE to say, Dear God, for the love of all concerned, DO NOT breed fire ants. They are horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible.
Horrible.
Absolutely, I know a few breeders who do this with large collections. They will refreeze once.
Yes I have read that a rodent can be refrozen one time. However, for my own peace of mind, if the rodent is left in the enclosure overnight and remains uneaten, I dispose of it. Unfortunately I don’t have anything to feed uneaten rodents to like a lot of you guys do.
If the rodent has been unthawed to room temperature just by leaving it out, and is only in the enclosure a few hours and not eaten, then I will refreeze it. For some reason I don’t like to refreeze anything that has been thawed in hot water.
I very rarely refreeze pinks and fuzzies just because.
@wulfsign lol:triumph: My husband would probably use ME as prey if I tossed a dead rodent in the yard and he found it with his eagle eyes and blood hound nose!!!!
I just have a small collection of pet snakes and none of them are voracious eaters so sometimes I just have to “eat” the cost and pitch the rodent……
When my MBK was small, she would eat a ft pinky every five days or so. Occasionally she would refuse one. Despite my young daughter’s objections, I would put them in w our adult beardie. He would happily eat the treat!
My business is housed in an BIG old New England farmhouse. I keep 6-8 mousetraps set all the time. Those mice I set on a granite block just outside my window. It’s fun to see who shows up… grey Fox, fisher, raptors, always a treat (for me).
