What's this gene

I’m new here and my friend give me a ball python as a gift
Is it a fire or…i don’t know, normal?
Thanks if you can tell me

If your friend was the breeder, did they tell you the pairing info for the parents?

The pattern is kinda neat, but without anything for sure, I wouldn’t think fire offhand. I would think a normal with some nice color and a funky pattern.

I think alot of times some nicer normals have people thinking there’s a fire complex gene because it can be so subtle. I have a male I picked up as a ‘high gold color’ back in 2000 that has also been thought to have fire.

My friend did not tell me too much but she’s a girl.

She is still on shiping,When she arrive I will take some better photos, can you tell me more that time?

Yeah, if anything hopefully someone else will pop in as well. Maybe they have a better eye if this is actually a low expression fire

I’m leaning towards Normal, though the quality of the photo does greatly affect ID on the BP especially if it may be a low expression fire. See if you can get some better photos in more natural lighting once you get them.

Poor little girl. She’s so confused looking in that photo. :smiling_face_with_tear:

She doesn’t have anything that definitely stands out as fire aside from being a bright little gal. It could just be that this particular breeder has a low expression fire with a little bit more of the wonky pattern instead of the blushing and headstamp a high expression can have.

If it comes down to it, you can send in a sample for skin shed testing. I’m actually waiting on one gal to shed so she can be tested for fire right now.

I’m still leaning on Normal but like @armiyana said you can always get a shed test done through RGI for Fire, I believe they’re 50 bucks for single gene testing. But they also do bundles if you ever want to test for recessive genes!
