I agree. At least until 125-150g.
He looks like that was an appropriate size. There’s nothing wrong with keeping youngsters on a weekly schedule, but there’s also nothing wrong with feeding every 8 days. Especially if you notice that he’s taking a little longer to digest before he’s out and about as usual, you might give him that extra day.
Very nice! He is a pretty boy!
Lost his baby look.
Just look at all those big boy Palmetto speckles! He seems to be thriving. Very handsome.
Starting to look solid! Very pretty.
Out of curiosity when you go to handle your snake is it ok to take him out of hiding or would you just wait until he’s out and about to do that?
Hmmmmm. If your boy is out and exploring that’s imho an opportune time to scoop him up. I usually don’t bother my guys when they are hiding. There will certainly be other opinions on this……
I usually grab them whenever I want to take them out, regardless. But occasionally they’ll look so comfy that I’ll give them a reprieve from being some primate’s plaything.
Thank you all. This has been the best forum community I’ve ever been associated with. I owe all the success I’ve had to you guys. I’m sure I’ll have more questions to come. I never thought I’d enjoy having the snake as much as I have. I’ve owned quite a few animals Pac-Man, gargoyle gecko, beardie, fart frogs, and turtle. My snake aka “Coconut” has been the most enjoyable of them all and I haven’t lost any interest. It’s been so enjoyable that I probed around and thought about buying a Hognose but unfortunately I live in Colorado and they’re illegal lol.
Thanks again
I have owned both and I personally would take a corn snake over a hog any day. Hognoses are great little snakes but a lot of them have feeding issues and they stay buried most of the time.
Corns are easy going, husbandry forgiving, colorful, and even acrobatic if given some climbing opportunities, and best of all, reliable eaters. Ya just gotta love these guys!
Either, both, whatever and whenever lol. Mine are all pretty well used to the fact that they may be scooped up whenever. They will become acclimated to whatever your usual practices are.
Have you tried to gently remove the dark area? As in maybe a bit of stuck substrate? I have had no experience with tail rot and I am certainly not saying that’s what it is but if it does not come off/rinse off easily then something is up. Could maybe be stuck shed but calling on @caryl @solarserpents before I say too much and get myself into trouble!
Edit to add: actually it appears that something is going on with the very tip of the tail as well?
I haven’t tried touching it. He shed a week ago and this is the first time I took him out and noticed it.
I’m pretty upset about this. As you guys can tell I’ve babied him.
DO NOT be upset at all! Wait until you find out what it is first! It may come off with his next shed. Have you tried to rinse his tail a bit or gently dab it with a damp cloth?
Do not beat yourself up! Stuff happens!!! It will be ok I promise!!!
@pikemartin Whatever it may or may not be you noticed it early on! That’s a great thing!!!
