Hi all!
We have a set of eggs that are 102 days today. I know it can be a while yet but is it beneficial at all to increase the temp a little bit at this point? we are sitting at 22 Celsius(71.6 F). Just getting anxious/nervous
thanks in advance

Some eggs incubate into the 120s, if they’re otherwise looking good, i wouldn’t worry yet
When I was breeding Cresties in the past during colder months I’d get some eggs that would go super long term (120+ days) and come out fine.
I wouldn’t worry too much unless you notice funky stuff happening with the eggs.
Ok! They look great! they are getting bigger I just am just getting impatient I suppose!
UPDATE!
Im happy to say that at 108 days we have two beautiful baby geckos! I wanted to share here because I know you guys will be as excited as I am.
Thats great to see!
They look healthy and big too
thank-you! I think so but these are our first so!
Congrats.
I love how they look like mini dinosaurs when they hatch.
How much do they weigh?
I was so curious but I was nervous to touch them! do you have success doing this?
Once they’ve hatched I move them from the incubating tub to it’s home for the next few months.
I weigh them as I move them.
You can always weigh them in an empty tub and then weigh the tub without the gecko inside to get the difference.
I have scales that can weigh super light things.
Some don’t mind being handled / weighed, but not all
ok! got weights! 2g each
at 6 days old. I don’t know if thats big or little or average
That’s about average
hey ill take it! I have been hand feeding them, any tips on how to get them to eat on their own? or should I expect to feed them for a bit by hand?
Handfeeding is not a great idea regardless of age! Once they hatch, you want to leave them completely alone until they start eating on their own. Personally, i weigh them, take a couple of pics, and then i just leave them be in their tub/tank. It might take a little while since they’re usually full from absorbing the yolk, but it’s important to let them figure it out on their own. Handfeeding, or stressing them out in general from the get go, unfortunately usually just extends the amount of time it takes for them to start eating on their own. So for now i’d leave them alone until you’ve seen evidence that they’ve eaten on their own a couple of times
Oh! ok! I just was nervous they wouldn’t eat and I got very mixed reviews on what people do. How often do you offer food? I do want to clarify, I didn’t actually handle them, just more so dip the end of an orange peeler in some food and offered it to them. they both did lap it up. people were mentioning they do this also to make sure everything is working in terms of the tongue! more then open to suggestions though.
A lot of people are worried at first so i don’t blame you, but it’s really just risking making it more difficult to get them to eat on their own at all unfortunately. Making sure that the tongue is working is not something ive ever heard anyone being worried about. But someone else the other day was asking about how to make sure they learn how to eat their shed, cause apparently some people were saying that’s important? So it definitely seems like there are people out there on the internet over-complicating this for new people, which is honestly not surprising at all All you really need to worry about when they first hatch is that they get all of the shed off, and that they start eating on their own within a few weeks at most. Usually if they’re just left alone, it takes maybe a week-week and a half in my experience. I personally feed all my cresties every 3-4 days regardless of age, some people like to feed hatchlings every day or every second day instead. I haven’t personally found it to make much of a difference though in terms of growth
Yeah that deffo sounds like people are over complicating things.
I feed my hatchlings super tiny amounts and every other day. That way I can see if they are it or not. I also placed the food in the same spot.
Deffo recommend stepping away from hand feeding
