So here’s an update on the possibilities with each pairing.

Zuko x Pineapple: Should be all Snows. Possibilities of RF &/or Halo, as well as Het Palmetto. Not expecting any real surprises there.

Ducky x Sienna: Expectation is all wild type, unless Ducky is het for either Amel or Caramel. I have no background on him, so who knows.

Sparkler x Sylvestris: This one is the one I’m most excited for. Sylvie was sold to me as Ultra Ph Palmetto, Sunkissed, with the caveat that as she grew, the Ultra was in doubt. I’ve always assumed she’s just Het Palmetto, also Het for either Amel or Ultra (her sire was an Ultramel), ph Sunkissed. Sparkler is one of my 2023 4th of July Fireworks babies out of Chipmunk & Pineapple. Anery suspected Het Palmetto, Het Amel + a bunch of other pos hets. So many potential outcomes. On top of that, Sylvie was the first juvenile female I ever purchased as a future breeder.

Those are some exciting possibilities! It’ll be like Christmas morning seeing those babies pop out.

I’m the super impatient type, so I’ll likely do a couple of pre-hatch candling sessions on the Ducky x Sienna and Sparkler x Sylvestris eggs to see if there are any that candle light vs dark as that could indicate lighter morphs and then mark those down. There’s a lot to be excited for!

Also still hoping my hoggie girl drops a clutch, and Azula is still looking plump for a girl that hasn’t been bred since last season. Guess we’ll see what else happens this year.

All of this is so exciting! So excuse the dumb question but is there a chance one of the babies could be a palmetto!

If both parents end up actually being het, yes, there is a chance of Palmettos!

You’re going to have so much fun greeting the wonderful new noodles.

That adds a whole new level of specialness to her first clutch. They’re all special, but some are especially special. :face_holding_back_tears:

Incubation update time! Pineapple’s eggs are a week away from being halfway there. Visible movement inside now! Sienna’s clutch is two weeks in, all the eggs are still looking good, developing right on schedule. As for Sylvie’s eggs, the remaining ten are also progressing unremarkably. I estimate all hatch dates at around 63 days from the lay date. That would make the projected hatch dates as follows:

  • Zuko x Pineapple - 6/19 ('23 first clutch hatched 67 days, second at 61 days)
  • Ducky x Sienna - 6/30 ('22 clutch hatched at 61 days)
  • Sparkler x Sylvestris - 7/4

This is so exciting, @noodlehaus! Glad to hear everything is coming along so well. “Unremarkably” is a great description. No news is good news for egg development and the waiting game.

Interesting clutch comparison time! I noticed when laid that all three clutches had very differently sized eggs, so I decided to weigh one from each and compare. It will be interesting to see if the larger eggs pre-hatch produce larger hatchlings.

Pineapple egg (32 days incubated): 13.5g
Sienna egg (21 days incubated): 16.5g
Sylvestris egg (17 days incubated): 9.1g

I wish I had recorded a weight when they were first laid so I could compare size from lay to hatch. Will be interesting to see how Sienna’s hatchlings compare to everyone else, with such a size/weight difference in egg.

I’m going to say yes, you can expect that. I’ve not actually weighed eggs (good idea) but I’ve had clutches with small eggs and clutches with large eggs. Neonate size directly correlated with egg size. Size only, not health. They were smaller but perfectly healthy. Bigger clutches of smaller eggs just meant they needed smaller feeders initially.
