2026 Breeding Plans?

Howdy everyone! Just thought it’d be fun to share what we have planned and paired for this season - here’s my Sterling Ghost boy paired to my GHI Pastave girl. They’ve been paired a few times now and had several locks, so here’s hoping for a good clutch this year!

(Side note, this is not usually how I keep my ball pythons, I just clear the enclosure and put down paper towels for the 3 days I leave the pair together!)

Oh you’re gonna get some pretty babies from that pairing if all goes well

Here are my 2 pairings so far for BPs this year:

Pesto x Mango (1.0 Clown poss Carbon x 0.1 Clown poss Carbon?) Pesto is Mango’s son, and there is the possibility of Carbon in their lineage so I’m breeding him back to his mom to see if they pop out Carbon babies. (The lock in the photo was from Nov. still waiting for any signs of an ovy from Mango, been pairing them 1x a month since then). No doubt I’ll get eggs from them, Mango has been very receptive :joy:

And Pesto x Nobara (1.0 Clown poss Carbon x 0.1 Banana Pewter Lesser). I paired them together for the first time at the beginning of January and this is the lock from that, they’ll be paired again very soon. Last year it only took 1 lock for Nobara to ovy (1st time breeder too) so I’m looking forward to seeing how their pairing goes.

Other than that I’ve gotten some new Mourning Gecko babies from my 2 females

@inspirationexotics Lots of work with darker morphs - I dig it! Especially with working in morphs that seem to up the contrast, I feel that’s going to make for spectacular babies. There’ll be a lot of variation in my (hopeful) clutch, and here’s hoping we hit good odds, but overall I just want nice, healthy baby snakes more than anything.

@cmsreptiles Those look like some promising locks, for sure! I may be a touched bias because I do love clowns, but who doesn’t? I’m admittedly a little out of the loop on things so I’m unfamiliar with the carbon gene, but either way those look like some stunning bps and I’m excited to know how it goes for you!

I’m working toward pewter ghi mojave ghosts/some combo thereof with this pairing, of course knowing it’ll be another generation before I get what I’m trying to produce, but they should still make some pretty babies, and things like this are worth the wait, yeah? They’ve been locking great the last 2 times they’ve been put together, so I’ll give it another go in March and let my girl Kimball decide from there!

I also have one secret pairing this year that I’m working with as building blocks towards a triple recessive project. Can’t share that one though, quite yet!

@chesterhf @t_h_wyman might be able to explain it a bit better than me since they both owned Mango and Pesto before me and have a more in depth understanding(Pesto was produced from a pairing Hillary did between Mango and a Leopard Butter het Clown male).

(I’m going off of Morphpedia loosely for this) So basically Carbon is a gene that was discovered from an imported baby back in 2006 and turned into a project by Paul Miles, which I believe was then sold off to Ryan McGehee. The Carbon was incorporated into a lot of Clown breedings that Paul Miles did and Mango, if I remember what I was told correctly, directly descended from that lineage that Paul produced.

That is where the theory that Pesto is a Carbon Clown came from, its just a bit confusing since Mango doesn’t appear to have the same characteristics that Pesto does.
