'24 breeding pairs

Thanks! Im not really sure tbh, right now 5/6 are holdbacks for different reasons :joy: I really like the first one from the second clutch though, with the grey tail - Ive never hatched one with a grey tail like that straight out of the egg that wasn’t a phantom which it definitely isn’t :eyes: The first one from the first clutch has some really funky pattern though… And the two new ones are parthos so they’re a bit special, one of them seems a bit wobbly this morning so if that one makes it, it’s gonna be a fave knowing me. It does seem like the female has a knack for creating parthos though as her other eggs are showing no signs of failing yet

Oh golly goodness, that was the story of my 2023 season! Hoping for more clarity early this year. Isn’t loving our babies is a great problem to have, though?

I can definitely think of worse problems, that’s for sure :joy:

Look at the little babies! I can’t wait to see my first hatchlings, I’m really hoping to get at least one LW out of this first clutch, because I’m not sure how many other chances I’m going to get…

Congrats they are gorgeous :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I think letting go of them is the hardest part. I’ve still got most of my babies which is partly why I chose to take a year off breeding… If I can’t part with them, then I’ll eventually run out of room :grimacing::sweat_smile:

Crossing my fingers that your hatchlings are gonna be exactly what you’re hoping for! :crossed_fingers: Im hoping that i won’t get too many LWs this season cause i already have a good handful, and since you can’t bred them together, i feel like they take up a lot of space  but they’re always so exciting to hatch, there’s just something about them!

That is very true, but I think it would be really neat for my very first hatchling to be a Lilly. Not many breeders could say that (Or maybe they can, idk)

Thanks! It for sure is, i took two years off breeding partly due to some personal stuff, but also so i could grow out some of my hatchlings from 2021 - I ended up only keeping 3/23, but a lot of them stayed until they were nearly adults… I had to convince myself that there’s no good reason for me to keep all three almost identical orange phantom LW females with the exact same lineage
I already know im gonna have the same problem with the clutch from pairing four (the two dark red ones), and if the other clutch from her end up looking similar it is gonna be tough for sure

My first three were all LWs, back in 2021 i felt quite lucky  The very first was a phantom LW whom i still have - he ended up with a bit of an unsightly dip/bend in his lower back, so he’s a forever pet, though he absolutely hates me so i mainly just feed him and leave him be :joy:

Ohhh he’s handsome!
I love phantom lillies, I didn’t at first because they don’t have as much coverage, but I’ve switched my preferences lol, I like lower coverage better now.

High coverage snowflake phantom LWs are amazing! Actual high coverage LWs are cool as well, Im not personally super into your average “high coverage” LW, where it’s really just high coverage snowflaking - it often looks kind of weird imo… There are some cool LW combos out there though, I have an orange tangerine phantom LW as well, and she might be one of my fave combos tbh :eyes:

Late June update - Had 6 more clutches hatch, however only one from each clutch made it.Two died in the egg, and one lived for about 3 weeks. The one that did manage to live for a little while was really nice so im super bummed, and Im hoping to hit whatever that combo was again, but the other three that are thriving so far are also super nice. All my females seem to have stopped laying already, so I only have 12 eggs left, 4 from Merlin x Lantana (pair 2), 3 from Arlo x Kanna (pair 3), and 5 partho eggs from Pepper. Her second partho clutch is due to hatch any minute.

The first babies from Merlin x Lantana that hatched back in May are doing great and have already doubled in size - The first one that hatched in particular is super super nice.

Very cute :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
They have such big personalities right from the get go

They really do, it’s so fun to experience - Both of the new ones are insanely jumpy like i’ve never experienced before, and the one that threw its tail was open mouthing me from the second it came out :joy:

So cute :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I saw one hatch, however it wasn’t too pleased. It jumped at my finger like a raptor, if I keep it… Then I know what I’ll be naming it. It was also jumpy & open mouthing me up to a few weeks old. Who doesn’t need a bit of attitude

I found that some threw their tail (even ate the tail) after their first bugs… It’s like they can’t tell the difference between their own tail or the insect :person_facepalming: or maybe they were just greedy and wanted both lol :woman_shrugging:

Thanks!
A lil update, had another singleton hatch from Merlin x Lantana, and he is huge, almost 2g even though he was only in the egg for 67 days. He’s pm the same size as his sibling that hatched last month, maybe even a bit bigger. The one that didn’t make it looked a bit like the one that didn’t make it in their last clutch so Im wondering if something is up
I have had a really shitty season thus far though, so for now I assume that Ive just gotten unlucky. I did try a new thing were i moved the eggs to paper towels around day 60 to avoid the babies getting incubation substrate stuck to them when they hatch, but it’s weird how the supposed partho babies are hatching just fine when the others aren’t… Ive stopped doing it regardless though, hopefully the rest of the eggs will hatch without any problems.
The Arlo x Kanna baby unfortunately passed away even though it seemed to be doing ok, it suddenly developed these spots of ripped skin all over its body and died, ive never seen anything like it, incredibly bizarre. It did hatch out all bloated as well, but it seemed to have gone away for the most part the next morning and it was very active so i didn’t think much of it. Another egg from that pairing has also gone bad about a month in, so im definitely keeping an eye on the remaining three. Two of them are due within the next week or two, and they’re still looking good. One of the eggs is absolutely tiny, and the other is huge, so im super interested to see whether there’s gonna be a size difference between the babies. But if there’s any problems with the last three babies, both of the adults will be donated to pet only homes.

Sorry to read of the extra challenges you’ve had this season, @autumngeckos. It’s really too bad, especially when you do your best to do what’s right for the animals. I hope that the rest of the eggs hold only good surprises and the animals all thrive from this point forward.
