3 day old hatchlings

Hey all!

So we have new members of our clan that joined us 3 days ago! Beautiful baby crested geckos and our first hatchlings

I’ve been so on top of what I’ve needed to do for them. I’m aware most people wait until the 3rd day to offer food so that the babies will learn to eat their shed properly.

My question/concern is, we found a small piece of shed in the front of the enclosure this morning. How do I know if they are shedding/eating the shed the way they are supposed to? I’m due to offer them the food tonight.

Thanks in advance

Never heard about that tbh, I’ve never been concerned about whether or not they eat their shed, the main thing that matters is that they get it all off. They typically do it instinctively, but it’s nothing to be concerned about if they don’t. Also, personally, I just feed them the next time Im due to feed the geckos anyway, afaik the main reason some people wait a little bit is simply because they tend not to eat for a few days, since they’re full from absorbing the yolk

Ok! I was watching a couple hatchling videos mainly the one from creature cove about feeding them and they just mentioned that they may not eat their shed if they have had the tasty fruit food! they both ate for me today and I’m feeling good I think! They seem to be settling in nicely. When do you typically wait to handle them?

I typically wait until i’ve seen them eating a few times

I agree once they’ve eat a few times. Although if a gecko is particular jumping or scared, I give them a few extra days to settle just to be sure

They seem to be ok with jumping onto my hand while I try to clean the enclosure :stuck_out_tongue:

I love the ones that looked to come out to play. I have one gecko that gets super excited when I’m cleaning the enclosures out. He jumps at the glass doors over and over, till I get him out lol
