I have a male leopard gecko that is 83 grams….and then a female he is going to be bred to, she is 50 grams. She is just a smaller leopard gecko, and he is just a bigger one all I’m asking is, is that much of a weight difference a problem? I’m not breeding right now or even this year. And I’m still going to see if she’ll gain a bit more, but I don’t know if 33 grams is too big of a difference? Thanks
I usually tried to pair mine when they were a little closer in size, but sometimes you just do end up with that smaller female.
It’s difficult to say what will happen. Every pairing is different. I personally have never had anything more concerning than the usual flakey skin because of nipping, but sometimes you will have a VERY aggressive male or female who is not receptive and can end up with lost tails or large bite wounds.
I was a light sleeper and had my group in my bedroom so if anything sounded like a scuffle or fight I was able to separate them early. I lucked out and had a few large females and a pretty ‘gentle’ male though.
